New World Screwworm Awareness

New World Screwworm, also called NWS, is a serious parasite that can infest open wounds in animals. While cases are not currently something we want owners to panic about, it is important to know what to watch for and to contact a veterinarian quickly if you notice a wound with unusual drainage, a foul odor, visible larvae, or sudden worsening.

According to the FDA’s current veterinary guidance, the products authorized or conditionally approved for treatment of NWS in dogs and cats include:

For dogs:
Credelio Quattro-CA1
Credelio
NexGard
Nitenpyram tablets

For cats:
Credelio CAT
NexGard COMBO
Nitenpyram tablets

These products should only be used under the direction of a veterinarian when NWS is suspected or diagnosed. If you notice a concerning wound on your pet, please do not try to treat it at home. Call our clinic so a veterinarian can evaluate your pet and decide the safest and most effective treatment plan.

Yesterday, our team took time to gather for lunch and our monthly staff meeting. These meetings give us an opportunity to get everyone on the same page, fine-tune our operations, and discuss ways we can continue improving the care and service we provide to our patients and clients.

One of the topics we reviewed was anesthesia safety. Even though our team works with anesthesia every day, regular training and refreshers help ensure we continue following the highest standards of patient care and monitoring.

At Companion Animal Hospital of Waller, we believe that learning never stops. By investing time in communication, training, and teamwork, we're able to work more efficiently and provide an even better experience for both you and your pets.

When she's not in the grooming salon, Elyssa is always willing to jump in and help wherever she's needed around the hospital. We appreciate everything she does for our patients, clients, and team.

This dedicated time allows our team to review hospital updates, continue training, and discuss ways to provide the best possible care for our patients and clients.

Today we're celebrating an incredible milestone—14 years of Kristi being part of the CAHW family! ❤️

Since 2012, Kristi has been the friendly face and familiar voice that so many of our clients have come to know and trust. As our Lead Client Care Specialist, she helps keep our front desk running smoothly while ensuring our clients and patients feel welcome and cared for from the moment they walk through the door.

Her dedication, experience, and commitment to our hospital have helped shape CAHW into what it is today. Fourteen years is an amazing accomplishment, and we are incredibly grateful for everything she does for our team, our clients, and their pets.
