Meet Franklin, our Case of the Month! 🐢
Franklin, a red-eared slider turtle, came to us after her owner found her upside down at the bottom of her tank. She was very weak, struggling to climb onto her basking rock, and had several pink sores developing on the underside of her shell — signs of infection that needed medical attention.
After examining Franklin and discussing her home setup with her family, we discovered that her tank environment and diet needed some adjustments. Reptiles can be surprisingly complex pets to care for, and many husbandry issues happen simply because owners are given outdated or incomplete information.
Franklin’s treatment plan included:
• Environmental and habitat corrections
• Nutritional support and cuttlebone soaks
• Antibiotic injections every other day
Her prognosis was initially guarded, but we are happy to report that Franklin improved with every visit! She is now getting stronger and is on her way back to enjoying her large tank and swimming again. 💚
Franklin’s story is a great reminder that proper lighting, water quality, nutrition, tank size, and basking areas are all critical for reptile health. Even small husbandry changes can make a huge difference in quality of life.
If you have reptiles at home and are unsure whether their setup is ideal, we are always happy to help guide you — no judgment, just education and support for both pets and their people.
