There are several reasons why you may not see an animal out on exhibit, and these include cleaning, habitat enhancement projects, and pool maintenance! 🐪🦒🐅

For example, each week the Animal Care team cleans a different pool. While they try to do this early in the day or when the Zoo is not open, it could be the reason you don't see a certain animal. We have some projects coming up soon so stay tuned for those details! 👀

UPDATE: our giraffes WILL be on exhibit this week as the project has been a bit delayed. Stay tuned for exhibit renovation updates! 🦒

🚨Our giraffe habitat will be closed next week, Monday 6/1 to Sunday 6/7 for habitat enhancement! 🦒

But don't worry...there will be plenty of time to see and learn about our giraffes on 6/20 during World Giraffe Day! Join us from 9am to 2pm to celebrate these majestic “sentinels of the savannah.” Keeper chats will be at 10:30am & 1:30pm. Free with admission! 🤩

Summer hours are in full swing at ! The Zoo will now be open for longer hours on Sundays, June-August, to accommodate for warmer temperatures 🌞

Monday-Sunday: 9am-5pm with last entrance at 4:30pm 🦒🐢🐟🐊

My, what big teeth you have! It's with Wookiee!

It may come as a surprise, but, despite being herbivores, sloths have some sharp and very prominent teeth! These teeth are not true canines or incisors, but rather a kind of tooth called a caniniform. Sloths use these to efficiently crush and chew tough leaves and other plant matter! 🍃

Excitement continues in 's penguin colony with the hatch of a second African penguin chick on May 9! 🐧

While first time parents Rosie and Rupert are the biological parents, the choice was made to have experienced penguin pair Lil’ Jim and Dottie step in as foster parents to ensure the chick had the greatest chance of success.

The chick is growing fast and may be viewable in the coming weeks as he peeks out from his nest box on habitat 👀 Stay tuned in to our penguin journey as you never know WADDLE happen next!

As Cameron Park Zoo looks toward the future, we’re reflecting on both incredible growth and meaningful change. Following the loss of Tembo and the conclusion of our elephant program, our team has been thoughtfully planning what’s next for the Zoo and the experiences we create for our community.

From expanded habitats to new guest experiences and conservation focused growth, this next chapter is just beginning.
