Wow, what a weekend at Huntington Farm Vermont Horse Trials and AREA 1 USEA Championships!

Thank you to everyone who came and enjoyed our FEC sponsored tent and goodies on Saturday. We gave out all of our carrots and had just 2 waters left over! We would say that was a successful day!

We absolutely could not have pulled this off without the generosity of our friends and partners. They deserve a HUGE thank you, as does the fantastic team at Huntington Farm for a wonderful event 👏

⚠️ Graphic image warning! ⚠️

Ooofff. Horses.

This poor horse got himself into quite a pickle a few weeks ago! 🥴 But, the wound has healed up wonderfully and the horse has a great prognosis. It’s been no easy feat keeping it clean and fly free during these summer months. Team work makes the dream work!

🌟This owner gets an extra gold star though. Why? Because the quickest way to get her horse the care he needed was to put him on a horse trailer.

This injury happened at 5pm on a day when Dr. Sam was covering on call for multiple veterinarians. They were hours away from each other. Meeting back at FEC was the most efficient way to get the horse treated and a much better use of the already very tired Dr. Sam’s time! 🩺

Such a wonderful weekend! Round of applause for the entire Huntington Farm team!! 🐴😍☀️🐎

⭐️ Online Pharmacy Change ⭐️

In an effort to make things easier, simpler and more affordable for our clients FEC has switched to a new online pharmacy, VetCove.

VetCove should be more user friendly (for you and for us) and takes their price matching very seriously! 🤑

📝 This also seems like a good time to remind folks of the FEC Pharmacy Policy: FEC does not work with outside pharmacies. If your horse needs a medication we don’t have in stock, it can either be ordered through VetCove or you can request a paper Rx and pick it up from our office to submit to a pharmacy of your choice.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we get fully switched over. Please let us know if you have any questions or issues.

We had a well attended and wonderful client education event earlier this week! 📝

A huge thank you to Dr. Phil with Merck Animal Health Equine for his engaging presentation on colic and field emergencies. And to High Horses Center for Equine-Assisted Services for setting up such a beautiful space and hosting us all!

Added bonus - Dr.Sam and Dr.Glass didn’t even get any emergency colic calls during the event! 😜

🐴 Thank you to all who attended! 🐴

‼️Cool (gross!) Case Alert! ‼️

This poor horse presented with a swollen face and difficulty eating a few weeks ago (photo 1).

After taking a closer look, we discovered that she had a big abscess in her upper lip! We simultaneously discovered a new breed of horse: the thoroughbeaver 🦫!!

A big wood splinter (from chewing the fence) made its way into the mucosa of her lip and an abscess formed around it.

Dr. Sam was able to pop the abscess and thoroughly debride the area. It was so big that after cleaning out all the pus and wood remnants, there was a huge hole all the way through her lip! 🤕 (Photos 2-4)

After a couple weeks of antibiotics, flushing, pain meds, and TLC from her owner, she is as good as new! (Photos 5-6)

Just in time for spring grazing! 🌷🐴

🚨No emergency coverage March 6-7th 🚨

Both Citadel Equine and FEC are not available. This means, during these dates, there will be no veterinarians available for any on-farm emergency services for current clients. In the unlikely event your horse needs emergency treatment, you will need to be prepared to go to a referral hospital.

🛻 Please have your trailers plowed out‼️
Don’t have a truck/trailer? Make a plan with a friend who does.

☎️ Who do you call? A referral hospital of your choosing. You MUST call the hospital first, DO NOT just show up. We often refer to Tufts Hospital for Large Animals, but a complete list of options are below:

🐎 Tufts (MA) 508-839-7926
🐎 Myhre (NH) 603-335-4777
🐎 NEEMSC (NH) 603-749-9111
🐎 Rood & Riddle (NY) 518-583-7273
