We’d like you to finally meet Levi! He’s had a long road to get to where he is now. You see, when he first arrived to the shelter, he was so matted that he could not defecate. He basically just laid on his side on the shelter floor. The shelter staff was able to give him some relief if removing the matted and crusted fur from his butt…. But it took some skin with it as well and left him with a wound. In good news, he was finally able to go to the bathroom and resume eating. We agreed to take on his care and got an appointment with our friends at Scrubbers Self-Serve Dog Wash & Professional Grooming in Royal Oak the next day to shave the rest of the matted fur from his body. We did notice that he walked a bit funny, and assumed it was due to the tightness of his mats pulling on his skin between his legs and belly. Once he was shaved and more comfortable, we were able to make a better assessment of Levi. We suspected he had at least 1 bad patella, causing his kneecap to slide out of place. An appointment with Dr Wilson confirmed, he had 2 luxating patellas that would require surgery to repair and give him the best function. Being a young fella, he would heal well, so we scheduled the bi-lateral surgery at the soonest available date. Levi did amazing, but the lengthy surgery did not allow them to neuter him at the same time, as we hoped. His 2 week and 4 week recheck appointments went well and his mobility has been great. Finally, we were able to schedule him a spa day with his newly grown out fur and for his neuter so that he could be ready for adoption.
Levi is an amazing 3 year old Toy poodle. He’s spunky, affectionate, and smart… but also a bit noisy. He’s found his little bark and will bark at strange noises outside, squirrels, birds, etc. He is doing great with his potty training, and loves to explore in his fenced yard, regardless of the weather! Because of his initial condition and surgeries, and the weather, he has not been well practiced on a leash. Due to this, we are looking for a special home for him. It must not be a condo or apartment that his barking could disrupt, and he would love to have a fenced yard where his owner can watch him explore. He is good with other dogs that aren’t overbearing and pushy. He has met a couple cats and seems not to mind them either.
