As many small businesses continue to navigate rising costs for supplies, utilities, insurance, and daily operations, we’ve made minimal updates to our rates and policies to help us continue providing the high-quality care, safe environment, and personalized attention your pups deserve. We’ve carefully considered these changes and remain committed to making Happy Dog Ranch & Resort a place where you can feel confident leaving your four-legged family members.

These updated rates, deposit requirements, cancellation policies, and discount terms are effective immediately for all new reservations made on or after October 20, 2026.

Thank you to everyone who submitted feedback for our next adventure, Happy Dog Ranch & Ride! We’re currently analyzing the results to help determine the best routes and schedule for our upcoming pickup and drop-off service.

We also wanted to take a moment to address a question that came up in the feedback: Why is nap time important for your pup at daycare?

At Happy Dog Ranch, we believe that rest is just as important as play! Our daycare schedule includes designated nap and quiet-time periods so dogs have an opportunity to recharge, relax, and decompress from the excitement of group play.

Weather permitting, our regular schedule of 7:30 AM–12:00 PM and 3:00 PM–6:30 PM provides approximately 6–8 hours of activity and socialization throughout the day. Can you imagine a toddler playing, running, and socializing for that long without a break?

Regular rest periods help prevent overstimulation and fatigue, support healthy social interactions, and give dogs time to hydrate and recover before returning to play. Daycare is also a great opportunity to prepare a dog for an upcoming boarding experience, and getting acclimated to the kennel environment is helpful. 

During nap time, some dogs will sleep, while others may simply relax quietly in their own space. Dogs are also welcome to enjoy a treat, snack, or meal brought from home during this time.

Our goal is to provide a balanced daycare experience where dogs have plenty of opportunities for fun, socialization, enrichment, and, just as importantly, rest. Because a happy dog isn’t necessarily a dog who plays all day… sometimes, a happy dog is a well-rested dog! 🐶🐾

Ozzy’s time to shine ☀️ We just completed our mile and he did great. Ozzy has been at the ranch since November of 2023 with a few returns after failed adoption attempts due to reactivity towards livestock. We know for sure he’s not good with horses and chickens. This sweet guy is cuddly, appreciates belly rubs and loves to play with toys. He’s kennel and house trained, and knows basic obedience. Ozzy does fine with cats and kids, but is dog selective. One of his best friends is a female German Shepherd, and he did really well with the last potential adopter’s male pitbull mix.

Our friends at TAH CrossFit are hosting a 100 Mile Challenge, so I joined in and the rescue pups are taking it on with me! 🐾

On our 1-mile walk this morning, I couldn’t help but admire how healthy our sweet Maya looks. The bottom picture is from the very first day we rescued her from inhumane living conditions. Her hair was thin and wiry, her nails were severely overgrown, she had scabs behind her ears and on her legs, and she was underweight. And let’s not forget… she was heartworm positive. But look at her now. Her coat is thick and full, she’s at a healthy weight, and she’s heartworm-free!

Maya is part gray wolf, so despite her incredible strength and high prey drive, she’s actually wonderful on a leash. I do feel even more comfortable walking her with her harness, though.

I often get asked what harness I recommend, and the Blue-9 Balance Harness is my go-to. All of the straps are adjustable, and it has both a back and front clip. The front clip is especially helpful for dogs who tend to pull or show reactivity on walks because it makes it easier to redirect their attention.

We carry a variety of colors and sizes at the ranch if anyone is interested!

Our friend JP with Fountain City Dog Training extended an invite to Happy Dog members for his free playgroups and canine social hours! Learn more below:

Our first PACK WALK is scheduled for this Friday September 4th at 6:00. We are meeting just north of the new Rock Island Bridge and will wrap up at the River House bar/restaurant for anyone looking for a Dinning or Drinking with Dogs evening. Please let me know if you are planning on attending so I can get a rough head count.

Also, our every 2 week playgroup rotation, continues with the addition of parallel play on 8/29, 9/12, 9/26…at Paws and Smile KC:

At 3:30, small dogs will play together in the play area while larger dogs can start with parallel play. At 4:00, large dogs can rotate into the play area along with any brave littles.
