We need to be completely honest and transparent with our community: our financial situation is DIRE.
We are facing a devastating financial crisis, and without immediate help, we will be forced to close our doors.
We don't say that for shock value. We don't say it to scare anyone. We are saying it because it is the truth.
We simply cannot keep taking in critical cases when our medical bills are mounting, donations are not keeping up, and we are now dipping into the funds that are supposed to keep the lights on, the doors open, food in bowls, and a roof over the heads of the animals already depending on us just to pay emergency veterinary bills.
And yet… how do we say no?
How do we look at an animal suffering in front of us and decide that their life isn't worth saving simply because there isn't enough money in our bank account?
These are the decisions we are facing right now.
🐾 PANDA
Our community may remember Panda's story. Before coming to us, Panda lived a life of abuse, spending months suffering from severe neck injuries caused by a shock collar.
Through the dedicated care of Dr. Hawker and her incredible foster family, Panda spent nearly a full year learning to trust, heal, and realize that humans can be kind.
She's made SO much progress.
And now, after everything she has survived, she faces another hurdle.
Panda ingested a sock and has been violently throwing up everything she eats for four straight days. Emergency veterinarians at OVRS tried to move the obstruction using aggressive fluid therapy, hoping to avoid surgery.
It hasn't moved. It's completely stuck.
She needs emergency obstruction surgery tonight.
The estimate for her surgery alone is a crushing $8,500–$11,200.
And this is where rescue becomes absolutely heartbreaking.
How do we look at Panda, after everything this dog has already survived, and tell her that we have to end her life because we can't afford to remove a sock?
She has fought through abuse. She learned to trust people again. She has a foster family who loves her. She finally has a future.
Are we really supposed to let money be the reason she doesn't get to live it?
We can't.
🐾 ZOSMIE
Named “Zosmie” by her foster, this tiny kitten was found outside, alone and in critical condition. She was rushed straight to OVRS emergency care, where she is currently receiving treatment while we wait for her full prognosis and cost estimate.
She can't see.
She was outside, alone, in the pouring rain today.
What were we supposed to do?
Leave a tiny kitten with no sight outside in the rain because our vet account is running out of money?
We couldn't do that either.
🐾 UNNAMED BLACK CAT — WOUNDED & NOWHERE TO GO
We were also alerted to a heartbreaking case: a stray black cat found with severe, open flesh wounds across his back.
He desperately needs immediate veterinary care, wound treatment, pain management and a safe place to recover.
But the truth is, we have nowhere to send him right now because our accounts are completely drained.
And this morning, another life was lost.
A sweet cat was found collapsed literally on a sidewalk in the pouring rain. Despite emergency efforts to save them, the cat was too far gone, and the kindest thing we could do was end their suffering. 💔
THIS IS THE REALITY OF RESCUE RIGHT NOW.
We don't want to make life-and-death decisions based on money.
We don't want to ever say, “This animal could be saved, but we can't afford to save them.”
But we need everyone to understand something incredibly difficult:
There may come a point when we have no other choice.
When the emergency account is empty and the operating account is being used to pay veterinary hospitals, there isn't another magical pot of money somewhere. Eventually, there is simply nothing left.
And that terrifies us.
Because there will be another Panda.
There will be another kitten lying helpless in the rain.
There will be another injured stray whose entire future depends on whether someone says YES.
We want to keep being the rescue that says yes.
We want to save them.
But we cannot do it without you.
These animals need us, but we are NOTHING without YOU, our Village.
You guys are the MVPs behind every single miracle that happens here.
It's the person who gives $5.
The person who gives $10.
The person who can't donate but shares the post.
The person who tells a friend.
Thousands of small acts of kindness are what allow us to take a broken animal, hand them over to an incredible medical team, and say:
“Please save them. We'll figure out the rest.”
But right now, we aren't figuring out the rest.
We are drowning.
On top of Panda's emergency surgery tonight and Zosmie's emergency care, we still owe approximately $4,000 on our Groesbeck veterinary bill, and we have raised less than $1,000 toward it so far.
We are campaigning for our “MISSING MILLION” because this isn't about one emergency anymore.
It's about whether A ReJoyceful Animal Rescue can continue to exist for the next animal who needs us.
We have saved more than 10,000 lives over the years. We have made miracles happen because our Village has always stood behind us.
We need that Village right now more than we ever have.
