💙 NATIONAL VETERINARY TECHNICIAN WEEK 💙
When Rally was found sheltering in someone’s garage, she was very sick and not eating, so they made the kind choice to bring her in. At first glance, she was barely hanging on.
She weighed less than 4 pounds and was suffering from severe dehydration and hypothermia. She was too weak to stand on her own, and her eyes and nose were painfully caked in discharge. Based on her body condition, she looked like a senior, but she was actually only about one year old. Had Rally spent another day outside without treatment, she would not have survived.
Her condition was extremely critical, and Dakin’s veterinary team was unsure if she’d make it through that night. Life-saving care started immediately, and our team did everything they could, hoping she would rally—it was then that she was given her name. “Naming her Rally felt like rooting for her out loud”, said Mary Jane, Dakin’s Manager of Veterinary Services.
To address everything going on in Rally’s frail body, 10 different medications were needed. She got her own cozy bed to rest in while she received supportive care. Once she was stabilized, she was moved to a foster home to continue recovering. She made small improvements every day until she turned a corner and, against all odds, made a full recovery and got adopted.
It’s stories like Rally’s that fill us with hope and gratitude when it comes to the talent and dedication of our veterinary teams, which allows us to weather unexpected situations and say "yes" to animals in critical need of care.
