Went to visit Pistol and the vet allowed her to come home. She wasn’t eating at the vet but did eat some once we got home. She has a lot of recovery. Her body experienced a lot of trauma. Appreciate all the prayers.

Pistol survived surgery against all odds. One happy Mommy. She is still at the vet so they keep her quiet and monitor her condition.

Please send healing prayers for my dog, Pistol Annie.

Today turned out pretty rough. Thankfully Pistol Annie survived bloat surgery which most dogs do not. She is not out of the woods and is recovering at Fords Prairie Animal Clinic.

Earlier today Pistol started to have dry heaves and then her stomach was distended and bloat came to mind. To save a dog from bloat, you have only a few hours. I called, we decided I should bring her to the clinic. It’s a 45 minute drive and I-5 sucks going thru Chehalis. I get her there at 5 pm, his staff were waiting for us. The xray confirmed her stomach was twisted. A twisted stomach cuts off blood flow so she was at risk for heart failure and rupture.

They normally refer you to an emergency vet because most vets are not staffed 24/7 for recovery. Two things, first emergency vets are extremely expensive. Second, Pistol would not survive that long to drive to a clinic. She would have died en route. She had very little time.

She was in horrible pain and my thought was to let her go but how do you do that when she’s your baby since birth. Because of my ongoing relationship with his team, Dr Remund chose to try, knowing her chances were slim to make it thru surgery.

I waited and finally was told, she made it thru surgery and now to help her survive recovery. Dr will stay there with her. They are not staffed overnight. I offered to sleep there but he’d stay. I’m so thankful for a Dr. that is selfless.

The decisions I had to make today happen everyday for people because most vets would not have done the surgery. They send you to an emergency vet which most people cannot afford. How horrible to have to end your dogs life because you cannot afford thousands of dollars. Vanna’s emergency vet cost 4 years ago was $5000. It’s insane and traumatic to make that decision.

It’s sad that our veterinary business has gotten to this point. Afraid of liability, vets want regular hours, no staffing of overnight clinics. Basically it’s a business, not to save animals. Why? Because many vet clinics are corporate owned. Dr. Remund owns his practice.

I read that the federal government is looking at the crisis of pet veterinary care. There’s a shortage of vets and one of the highest su***de rates, but why?

Over the many years, Dr Remund has saved my animals and my dog Vanna is also alive due to her Addisons treatment. Pistol was born at the vet clinic by c-section. My cat Olaf is alive because Dr. Remund met me at the clinic when my cat was attacked by a dog.

I feel for rescues who deal with these decisions often. While I was waiting for Pistol, I read a plea for donations for a rescue dog needing vet care. The costs were more than I could afford for my own dog and I cannot ask for donations to pay my dog vet bill. Nothing against saving rescue dogs but emergency vet clinics shouldn’t be the routine. If my choice had to be emergency vet tonight, I could not have afforded that visit.

Thx for letting me share. I needed to decompress.
