Canine Chacha Hits the Ground Running

Fresh off her recent certification in narcotics detection, K9 Chacha has wasted no time putting her skills to work.

Earlier this week, K9 Chacha and her handler responded to assist deputies with a stolen vehicle investigation at Little Creek Casino. After being roused from her cozy slumber, Chacha conducted a free-air sniff and successfully alerted to the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of methamphetamine and other illicit narcotics.

Later in the week, Chacha and her handler responded to assist with a routine traffic stop for equipment violations. What began as a simple traffic stop quickly escalated when deputies recovered multiple fi****ms and arrested the driver for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Chacha again alerted to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle, leading to the discovery of additional narcotics and drug paraphernalia.

We are proud of K9 Chacha’s early success and the valuable role she plays in helping keep our community safe. Great work, Chacha and handler!

Today our family said goodbye to ‘s first foundation female. She gave us some great pups with OPD K9 Melnic over the years and we are forever grateful for her dedicated companionship as well. 12 years wasn’t long enough 😞 Rest easy good girl, you will be missed 💔

🚔 Great work! What are the chances Igo finds and apprehends this guy twice?! Some people never learn.

Early this morning, K9 Igo and his handler were in the area when Olympia Police Department officers attempted to contact a known wanted suspect. The suspect then fled on his bicycle and continued on foot through downtown Olympia. The suspect was wanted on felony warrants. Despite multiple warnings, the suspect continued to run, and K9 Igo was deployed and safely took him into custody.

Unfortunately for him, this wasn’t his first encounter with Igo. This is now the SECOND time K9 Igo has apprehended the same suspect. The first time was back in 2025 after a vehicle pursuit and foot chase, where the suspect was ultimately found hiding under a deck.

While being treated after the arrest, the suspect looked up and asked, “Same dog?”

Yes. Yes it was.
