Kankakee County Humane Foundation Adoption Center 🐶🐱🐾
Since 1963 the Foundation has rescued unwanted, neglected, and abandoned dogs & cats in Kankakee County

While our staff works 7 days a week, we are open to the public on Saturday afternoons from 12 to 3 and by appointment Tuesday through Saturday. If you are looking to drop off a donation we are open to the public Saturday between 12 and 3 or you can leave the donation by the front door between 7 and 5 any day of the week. Sunday- Closed

Meet Mickey!

Mickey is the brother to Minnie that was posted earlier today! He is a small mix breed as well, likely a dachshund chihuahua mix and currently under 15lbs. Mickey wouldn’t mind being adopted with Minnie, but they are not bonded and can go to homes individually without issue!

Mickey is a funny dude who is always looking for human attention. He will excel in any home with continued love and guidance with any size and age of people or animals.

Mickey spent some time in a foster home before coming to the shelter. He’s crate trained, did very well with being potty trained, although may need a refresher after being at the shelter. Mickey is dog friendly and was very good with the cats in his foster home.

Meet Minnie!

Minnie is a 9 month old female small mix breed, possibly a dachshund chihuahua mix that is ready for adoption. She’s pretty small, at under 15lbs currently and is hoping her stay with us is a short one.

Minnie’s favorite pastimes include yard Zoomies followed by snuggling with people. She recently went to our adoption event at State Bank of Herscher and was an absolute delight.

Minnie was relinquished with her brother Mickey that we will feature later on today. They are not bonded and can go to homes individually or together!

Meet Stuart!

Stuart is a handsome grey dude we recently neutered through a TNR. Unfortunately for Stuart, he tested positive for FELV and will not returning to the outside and is instead ready for adoption!

Stuart is looking to join a home as the only cat or with other FELV + cats. Stuart is approximately 7 years old. Inside life is new to him but he’s adapting very well.

FELV transmits through close contact between cats—primarily via saliva, bite wounds, mutual grooming, shared food/water bowls, litter boxes, or from an infected mother to her kittens. FeLV only affects members of the cat family and cannot be transmitted to humans, dogs, or other non-feline animals.

Meet Smokey!

Smokey is a 10 month old blue tick neutered male hound that found himself at a high risk shelter due to no fault of his own. He had a ton of interest with his last post back in September but ultimately it did not land him a forever family!

This breed is loyal, athletic and at times can be vocal. Smokey is super dog friendly, loves people of all ages and would make a great addition to any home with some guidance on a routine.

Meet Sydney!

Sydney is a 2yr old spayed female who found herself at a high risk facility due to no fault of her own.

Since coming over to our shelter, Sydney has been on some dog dates with our volunteer, went to the St Anne Pumpkin fest and was a great gal. She rides good in the car, dog friendly and such a happy gal.

Meet Louise!

Louise is the cutest smallest little gal at just about 10 months old and is searching for a fresh start due to no fault of her own. She is dog friendly, all people friendly and doesn’t Mind being picked up. She is presently around 12lbs and we don’t anticipate her to grow too much more.

She has been keeping her kennel spotless with us, hasn’t left a toy out of place and has been an absolute delight to have in our shelter. We know she is definitely missing a family to spend lots of individual time with her.

It's Wednesday, which means its a perfect day to come MEET FRENCH TOAST at our Feline Facility Sunrise Center Animal Rescue between the hours of 4pm and 7pm.

This handsome boy was found outside, trapped as a stray, introduced to the inside life and realized home life is meant for him. French Toast is 5 years old, neutered up to date on everything and microchipped thanks to the person who found him!
French Toast is friendly, goofy and loves a Catio!

Toasty is really missing being in a home with some individualized attention.

Toasty is now at our feline facility, at Sunrise Center Animal Rescue, in Kankakee .

We have public visitation hours 3 times a week at Sunrise in Kankakee.

We have so many wonderful kittens in our care Lancelot is just as adorable as he is sweet. He has two other siblings with us as well, Lad and Godiva, who can be a little shy in the shelter setting but we have no doubt they will excel in a home setting.

Kittens always do better with a buddy, we require two or more kittens to be adopted together if no other felines reside in the home.

Stop by to visit all of the cats at the shelter. They cannot wait to meet you!

Meet Zero,Pumpkin,Candy,Marnie, Boo, Jinx, Buffy, Kalabar, Winnie and Cobweb!

Halloween is coming and ghosts aren’t scary at KCHF, the lack of applications to welcome home our puppies is! These 3 month old puppies are definitely a mix of adorable and have yet to find their own families to show them how to be amazing canine citizens.

German shepherd mix? Maybe!
Malinois mix? Possible!
Dash of lab? Could be!

Cobweb and Buffy both spent time in foster homes! We know any family willing to put in the work will have an excellent companion for life!

Photographing wiggly puppies definitely doesn’t do them justice on how cute they truly are. Apply to adopt any of the Halloween friends below and come meet them!
