I'm reaching out for a little help this summer. Most of the yards at the shelter have almost no shade during the hot summer months. We need pools to help keep the dogs cool while they are out. I am at the shelter every Tuesday all day. When we can use all the yards throughout the day every dog at the shelter can get out for some play time. Losing the ability to use the yards without shade means less dogs can get out.
I'm asking for direct donations to the Lyon County Animal Services for plastic kid pools. Bring them in say hi to the staff and maybe the dogs or have them delivered directly. The folding ones are okay they just don't last as long as the hard plastic ones. Any pools will help greatly.

Have fun be a dog enjoy life. If a dog isn't allowed to do these things you will find it very difficult to fix behavioral issues.

Play is a big confidence booster. Gretchen would barely step in the water not too long ago. She's an all-out water dog now. We accomplished this by using play and her drive for the ball to encourage her to overcome something she was nervous about. Turning a nervous dog into a more confident dog. Not by teaching them circus tricks using food. By teaching them how to open up be dogs play and leave that nervousness/fear behind.

Malinois evaluation time. Older couple with a young high drive energetic Malinois. Usually, I would say this won't work. I have a good feeling if the owners have a bit of patients this dog will not only be able to stay in this home but will thrive.
What an amazing dog. We'll be seeing more of Bella in the future.

Gretchen went shopping with me at Home Depot. Only thing that bothered her was the noise from the loud carts in the parking lot.

This might be the most important piece of training a dog can go home with. A conditioned "no". It just means stop what you're doing. Her intensions were to go say hi to the dog. A simple "no" she stops and moves on to something else.

I just happened to be able to catch a real world recall on video.
Leeloo is my personal dog.
There is an argument in the dog training community over what tools to use. Some people view e-collars as cruel. Some people view food only training as useless. If the end result works and the dog is happy, does it really matter? I happen to use e-collar a ton of play with very little food. I did recall training with Leeloo using an e-collar. She is happy she enjoys life she is almost always off leash, and her recall here was perfect while wearing no collar of any kind.

Typically, when checking a new dog out I prefer to use a dog I know with the unknown. We don't always get that opportunity so here we are. We needed to see how Lilo was going to be with other dogs. She did great and it looks like she will be going to a new home very soon. Marty is also waiting for his new home.
