🚨 3 mistakes dog owners make on walks! 🐾

1️⃣ Allowing leash pulling 🦮 Your dog shouldn’t be dragging you down the street! Teach them to walk with you, not pull you everywhere.

2️⃣ Letting them sniff EVERYTHING 👃 Sniffing is important, but walks need structure, too! Teach your dog when it’s time to explore and when it’s time to move.

3️⃣ Being inconsistent with rules ❌ If you allow certain behaviors one day and correct them the next, your dog gets confused. Consistency is key!

🐾 Remember: A good walk isn’t just about exercise. It’s about communication, structure, and building a better relationship with your dog.

Training doesn’t always have to look like a formal session in your backyard. Sometimes the best training happens when you’re simply out living life together!

Practice loose-leash walking at Lowe’s 🛒 to working on focus, neutrality, confidence, and impulse control in everyday environments, there are SO many ways to make training fun and useful.

✨ A few ideas to get you started:
🐕 Practice obedience around distractions
🛒 Explore pet-friendly stores
🌳 Work on place & impulse control outside
🚗 Take your dog somewhere new
👋 Practice calm greetings and neutrality

This beautiful Shepherd is here with us working on obedience, focus, and self-control. 🖤

Rhiannon is learning that she doesn’t always have to act on every impulse and that calm, thoughtful choices are just as important as knowing her commands. We’ll be building her engagement, impulse control, and ability to listen even when there are distractions around.

🐾 Cato’s Go-Home Update 🐾

Cato has made some HUGE progress during his time with us! ❤️

When Cato first came in, he struggled with reactivity toward both dogs and people. He had a hard time being neutral around distractions and could easily become overwhelmed.

Today, he is a completely different dog. Cato has learned that he doesn’t have to react to everything around him. He can now calmly coexist around other dogs and people, and he has made huge improvements in his ability to focus and stay composed.

One of my favorite improvements has been his walking! Cato now walks beautifully for his handler, making walks much more enjoyable and manageable. This is going to give you so many more opportunities to get out and actually enjoy life together instead of worrying about what might happen around the next corner. 🐕

The goal was never to make Cato love every dog or person he sees. The goal was to teach him how to exist calmly, listen to his owner, and make good choices even when distractions are present and he has come SO far.

Cato is going home with a much better foundation, but his training doesn’t end here. Consistency from his owner will be key in maintaining these skills and continuing to build his confidence and neutrality.

I’m incredibly proud of this guy and everything he has accomplished. ❤️ Now it’s time for him to take everything he has learned home and start enjoying more adventures with his person! 🐾

Today we celebrate the dogs who make our lives better every single day! the goofy ones, the driven ones, the couch potatoes, the working dogs, the puppies, and the old souls. ❤️ At Keystone K9, we believe every dog deserves clear communication, confidence, structure, and the opportunity to be the best version of themselves.

Here’s to muddy paws, wagging tails, endless training sessions, and the unconditional love only a dog can give. ❤️🖤
