Halloween is fun for us. For our dogs? It can be a LOT.

The doorbell keeps ringing. Strangers are showing up in costumes. Candy is everywhere. Their normal evening
suddenly looks completely different.

A little planning can help. Keep treats out of reach, skip the costume if your dog isn’t comfortable, and give them a
quiet place to get away from the action.

Is your dog joining the Halloween fun or hiding from the doorbell?

If your dog seems more anxious lately, look
at what’s changed around them.

Shorter days, more time indoors, and shifts
in your family’s routine can all change what
your dog experiences day to day.

Pay attention to when the behavior
happens, what comes before it, and what
has changed. Those patterns can help you
understand what your dog needs to work
on.

Welcome to the pack little Gambit in front. He is doing a great job working on his puppy foundations. In the back is big sister Storm who trained with us 2 years ago to become a Therapy Dog. Storm does an excellent job working in schools, nursing homes, libraries and even at Amazon. If you ever meet her, you will understand why she is in high demand.

Congratulations to Bo for graduating obedience classes. This adorable guy is very friendly and has come a long way with his self control!

Congratulations to Yogi for completing his Service Dog Training after passing his Public Access Test. We tested his skills at the Warwick Mall. He showed us what a good boy he is and he is proud too!

Congratulations to Remi for passing her Public Access Test. This was her last step in becoming a Service Dog. Service Dogs are taught tasks to support their owner’s disability but they are also expected to have a high level of obedience that transfers to different environments. Remi aced her test.

Training shouldn’t only work when
the environment is perfectly
controlled.

This family practiced one-on-one at
home and then took those skills
into parks and other environments
where distractions are part of real
life. For their energetic, easily
distracted border collie, that real-
world practice helped them see
progress in a short amount of time.

Thank you for trusting Dog Training

Name recognition, focus, and basic
commands are a great start. But puppy
training doesn’t stop once your dog learns
“sit.”

The next step is building consistency and
helping those skills hold up around
distractions and in everyday life.

Dog training advice gets passed around a lot, but that doesn’t mean all of it is worth following.

Waiting for a behavior to disappear, relying on outdated “alpha” ideas, or assuming an older dog can’t learn can keep
you from addressing what’s actually happening.

Good training starts with understanding your dog, communicating clearly, and consistently practicing the behavior
you want to see.

Which of these myths have you heard before?
