Good morning, KatuHouse! 🐾❤️

EXCITING NEWS! ELLIE HAD HER BABIES! 🎉🐱

Yesterday afternoon, Ellie officially welcomed NINE beautiful babies into the world! That’s right, NINE! ❤️

Now, let me tell you how it all went down, because it was quite the experience.

First off, I’m actually a little disappointed in myself. I always try to be present during my queens’ deliveries, partly out of curiosity, but more importantly, to be there in case anything goes wrong.

Unfortunately, I missed Ellie’s entire delivery! 😭

She gave me absolutely no signs that labor was approaching. Nothing unusual, nothing that caught my attention. Typically, my girls have delivered overnight or on weekends. At least, that’s how it’s always seemed to work out for me!

Well, Ellie decided she didn’t need me this time! 😂

And you know what? She did an incredible job all on her own! Nine beautiful kittens delivered, and all nine placentas accounted for!

But here’s where things got a little scary.

The moment I walked through the door, I heard a kitten crying. I immediately dropped everything, took my shoes off, thoroughly washed my hands, and rushed over to check on everyone.

Ellie had decided to give birth underneath my bed!

Eight kittens were all huddled together on a blanket, but there was one little kitten separated from everyone else.

My heart dropped.

This little girl was extremely cold and barely moving. I suspect she may have been the first kitten born and somehow ended up separated from her siblings.

I immediately picked her up and started working on getting her body temperature back up. I got the heating pad going and carefully began warming her.

For a moment, I genuinely thought I was going to lose her.

But slowly, as her body temperature improved, she started moving more, becoming more responsive, and eventually acting like a normal newborn kitten again! ❤️

What an incredible relief!

Now, fast-forward to today.

I’m extremely happy to report that ALL NINE KITTENS HAVE GAINED WEIGHT! 🥹

I’ve already stepped in to assist with feedings twice, just to make sure everyone is getting the nutrition they need right from the beginning. Thankfully, they’re also nursing directly from Ellie, which is fantastic!

For those who don’t know, the first 12–24 hours of a kitten’s life are incredibly important. During this period, newborns absorb essential antibodies from their mother’s first milk, called colostrum. These antibodies provide crucial protection while their immune systems are still developing.

Kittens that miss out on colostrum are more vulnerable to infections, which can become life-threatening at such a young age.

Unfortunately, losing Nova’s first litter was one of the most heartbreaking experiences I’ve had as a breeder. Those early feeding struggles are something I’ll never forget, and that experience is always in the back of my mind whenever new babies arrive.

So naturally, I’m being extra cautious with these nine little ones.

Ellie is doing well, although she’s still a little nervous. She isn’t lying down as frequently as I’d like, which makes nursing a bit more challenging. But we’re working on getting her comfortable and settled into motherhood again.

Now, let’s talk about these babies! 😍

🐾 7 POLYDACTYL KITTENS! Yes, SEVEN out of nine have extra toes!

👀 Possible odd-eyed babies! We won’t know for a little while, but there’s a chance some of these little ones will have two different eye colors!

🎨 Colors: We’re looking at a pretty dark litter! So far, I’m seeing blue torties, blacks, blues, and what I believe may be a black smoke! We’ll get a better idea of everyone’s colors as they develop.

And now, let’s talk about the names! 🎃👻

This is officially our E litter, which means every single kitten will have a name beginning with the letter E!

And since these little ones arrived just in time for Halloween, I’m thinking we might have some fun with a spooky, Halloween-inspired theme! 👻🦇

I’ve already been brainstorming some interesting names, but with NINE kittens, I’m going to need quite a few!

I’m thinking names that are mysterious, spooky, unusual, or just downright wicked!

And I’d love YOUR suggestions! ❤️

What Halloween-inspired names can you come up with that start with the letter E? I’m open to all kinds of creative ideas, so let’s hear them in the comments! Who knows, your suggestion might end up becoming one of these little kittens’ official names! 🎃🐾

For now, I’m just happy they’re all here, they’re nursing, and they’re gaining weight.

As for me, I’ve officially become a full-time mama alongside Ellie! 😂

I’ll be rearranging my schedule and heading home every few hours to check on everyone, assist with feedings, and make sure these little ones are gaining weight exactly as they should.

The next four weeks are going to be LONG.

I’m already exhausted from barely sleeping last night, and we’re only getting started!

A Few KatuHouse Updates!

First things first, Nova officially got spayed on Thursday! 🎉 That means her breeding days are officially behind her, and she is now enjoying her well-deserved retirement!

One thing I’ve always found fascinating is how a cat’s personality can change after being spayed or neutered. I’ve already noticed that Nova seems much calmer, more affectionate, and constantly looking for extra love and attention! She’s turning into quite the sweetheart. ❤️

With Nova officially retired, she is now looking for her furever home! 🏡🐾

She won’t be leaving us just yet, but if anyone is interested in giving this beautiful girl a loving home, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

And for anyone wondering, Nova still isn’t Ellie’s biggest fan. 😂 Some things just never change! The two still have to be kept apart, even after Nova’s surgery.

Now, speaking of Ellie… 👀

Ellie is officially the last female in the house waiting for retirement! Of course, that won’t be happening for another few months because, as many of you already know, she is getting ready to welcome a whopping 9–10 kittens into the world! 🤯🐱

I’m STILL trying to wrap my head around that number. After all these years of breeding Maine C***s, this will be my largest litter yet, and I already know it’s going to be one wild experience!

The excitement is definitely building because Ellie could go into labor at any moment now! ❤️

Since this wasn’t a planned mating, I don’t have an exact breeding date to work with. Instead, I’ve been relying on my experience, her physical changes, and the information we received during her recent X-rays.

During the appointment, the veterinarian was able to evaluate the kittens’ development and give us a rough estimate of when they might arrive. Based on what they saw, this weekend was a possibility!

And here’s something funny I’ve noticed over the years…

I swear, about 99% of my cats have decided to give birth on WEEKENDS, usually right in the middle of the night!

So here we are, another Sunday, keeping a close eye on Ellie and patiently waiting for the newest members of the KatuHouse family to make their grand entrance!

With 9–10 little ones potentially on the way, I already know I’ll have my hands full. But I’m ready to be right there beside Ellie, making sure both Mama and her babies get all the care and attention they need.

This is going to be one unforgettable final chapter for Ellie and a very special litter for KatuHouse. ❤️

Hello, KatuHouse family! 🐾❤️

A little afternoon update, and boy, do we have some exciting news to share!

Ellie is pregnant! 🥳 And not only is she pregnant, but she’s carrying a WHOLE LOT of kittens!

As you can see in the X-rays, we’re counting 9 to 10 KITTENS! 😱🐱

Yes, you read that correctly. NINE TO TEN! I am absolutely stunned. In all my years of breeding Maine C***s, I have NEVER had a litter this large. This is going to be one for the books!

Now, here’s the crazy part. This pregnancy was completely unplanned!

Unfortunately, this will be Ellie’s third litter this year, which is not something I would intentionally plan. In a controlled breeding program, I prefer to limit my queens to no more than two litters per year, with adequate recovery time between them. This was definitely not supposed to happen, and quite frankly, I didn’t even know Kane had his eyes on Ellie! 😂 But here we are!

With that being said, this will officially be Ellie’s third and FINAL litter. Once she has recovered and her kittens are weaned, Ellie will be spayed and eventually enjoy her well-deserved retirement. She will also be the final female to retire from KatuHouse as we wind down this chapter of our breeding program. But that’s a conversation for another day!

For now, let’s talk about these 9–10 BABIES! 🤯

With a litter this large, we’re going to have our hands FULL. Ellie is an incredible mother, but feeding and caring for that many kittens is going to be a tremendous amount of work.

Naturally, I’ll be right by her side, practically 24/7, especially during those critical first four weeks. Every kitten will need to be closely monitored, weighed daily, and checked to make sure they’re gaining weight and developing properly. With so many little mouths to feed, there’s a good chance I’ll need to step in and help with supplemental feedings.

It’s going to be exhausting, but you already know I’m ready for it! 💪🐾

NOW, LET’S TALK ABOUT DAD! 👑

Ladies and gentlemen, we officially have a NEW KING OF THE CASTLE!

KING KANE HAS ENTERED THE CHAT! 😂👑

That’s right! Our very own King Kane is going to be a father for the FIRST TIME!

And in the famous words of Maury Povich…

“KANE… YOU ARE THE FATHER!” 🤣🤣

This makes the litter even more exciting because we’re expecting some pretty incredible possibilities!

👀 Heterochromia: Each kitten may have up to a 50% chance of inheriting the genetics associated with two different-colored eyes.

🐾 Polydactyl: Each kitten has a 50% chance of inheriting those adorable extra toe beans!

Of course, genetics always has a few surprises in store, so we’ll have to see what Mother Nature gives us!

Between the possibility of odd eyes, extra toes, and a whopping 9–10 kittens, this is shaping up to be one VERY special litter.

And you know what’s funniest about all of this?

THE PLAN WAS TO SHUT DOWN! 😂

We were winding down KatuHouse, retiring our adults, reducing our numbers, and preparing for a quieter chapter.

And then Ellie and Kane apparently had OTHER PLANS!

Not only are we back at it one more time, but we’re potentially breaking our own record for the largest litter we’ve ever had!

I genuinely cannot believe it. I’m excited, nervous, overwhelmed, and absolutely thrilled all at once.

We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us, and Ellie’s health and the safety of every single kitten will always come first.

Good morning from KatuHouse,

Happy Wednesday! 🐾

I’d like to continue off yesterday’s topic and explain a little more about where KatuHouse currently stands.

As I’ve said before, KatuHouse is coming to a close FOR NOW, and we’ve drastically reduced our numbers.

When I moved into my current location, my original intention was actually to EXPAND. Unfortunately, I underestimated how much work that would be while also running my contracting business.

At this time, breeding is PAUSED. Most of my adults have already found new homes, and the remaining adults eventually will as well.

The exception is King Kane. 👑 Kane will NOT be neutered. Whether he eventually becomes the foundation for the future of KatuHouse or is used as a stud for another cattery, he’s staying with me.

There are two major reasons I’ve decided to slow everything down.

FIRST: LICENSING & REGISTRATION.

KatuHouse was registered in the past, largely because my former business partner believed strongly in it. At the time, I didn’t share that opinion.

My view was basically: Rhode Island already takes enough money from small businesses, and I wasn’t particularly excited about paying the government for permission to breed my own cats or having them come into my home and dictate how my cattery should be set up.

Between state registration, local requirements and fees associated with breeding cats, those costs can add up quickly.

And yes, I STILL think Rhode Island loves getting its cut. 😂

However, I’ve changed my approach.

If KatuHouse starts breeding again, everything will be properly registered and done by the book.

Not necessarily because I’ve suddenly fallen in love with government regulations 😂, but because I want ZERO headaches. No questions, no problems and no vulnerability because a Karen, sh*tty neighbor or anyone else decides to make a complaint.

SECOND—and much more importantly—is HEALTH.

Maine C***s can be predisposed to several health conditions, with HCM and hip dysplasia being two major concerns.

HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) causes abnormal thickening of the heart muscle. DNA testing can identify certain known mutations, but DNA alone isn’t enough, which is why cardiac screening and echocardiograms are important.

Hip dysplasia is another concern, especially with such a large breed, which is why proper hip X-rays and evaluations matter.

And these aren’t hypothetical situations for me.

I HAVE had cats with HCM concerns.

I HAVE had cats with hip issues.

And when that happens, there isn’t a debate:

THEY DON’T CONTINUE BREEDING.

I’ve had those cats spayed/neutered and removed them from my breeding program.

It sucks when you’ve spent thousands purchasing or importing a breeding cat, raised them and planned future lines around them—but the money doesn’t matter at that point.

You don’t breed them “one more time” because you’ve already invested money.

You retire them, take care of them and move on.

That’s responsible breeding.

When KatuHouse eventually returns, every breeding cat will be properly registered and FULLY health tested.

If they don’t meet my standards, they don’t breed. Period.

It might cost me thousands. It might delay a litter six months or a year. That’s fine.

I’d rather delay a litter than knowingly breed a cat that shouldn’t be bred.

🐾 AND NOW SOME FUN FACTS I’VE LEARNED 😂

Depending on where you live in Rhode Island, municipal ordinances can limit how many cats you’re allowed to keep at one residence. Some have a THREE-CAT limit.

So yes, in a municipality with that restriction, having four cats could potentially put you in violation.

And that outdoor cat you started feeding?

Rhode Island law can consider someone who continuously provides care or sustenance to a cat for 60 days or longer its owner for purposes of certain cat laws.

So if you already have three cats and regularly care for a fourth outside, things can potentially get interesting. 😂

Animal control also informed me that even an ordinary PET CAT—a fixed, non-breeding cat—needs to be licensed. I’m still researching exactly how that requirement works and whether it’s municipal or statewide before making a definitive statement on that one.

Apparently owning cats in Rhode Island requires a law degree. 😂

For now, KatuHouse is downsizing, regrouping and getting everything situated.

But I’m not ready to say KatuHouse is gone forever.

If we come back, the goal isn’t to come back BIGGER.

It’s to come back BETTER. ❤️🐾

Quality over quantity.
Health over money.
And doing things properly from the beginning.

Good morning, KatuHouse.

Yesterday I made a post regarding my current life stressor, and then I deleted it because, quite frankly, I was a little embarrassed to even be posting about something so childish and petty as a grown man.

Well, today we’re back on the topic because apparently this needs to be discussed.

For the last few days, my neighbor and I have been going through some petty bu****it. Somehow this has escalated to the point where this man decided to call Animal Control on me and drag my cats, my business and my livelihood into a personal problem between him and me.

And before I even get into Animal Control, I have to say this:

What kind of weak, sniveling little man goes after another man’s livelihood because he has a personal problem with him?

If your problem is with ME, then your problem is with ME. Leave my animals, my business and my income out of it.

I’ve already told him: if you have that much of a problem with me, we could’ve settled our differences man-to-man like people used to do instead of calling authorities and trying to create problems with something I’ve spent YEARS building.

But apparently that’s too much to ask.

Instead, he’d rather hide behind phone calls, involve authorities and stalk my pages looking for whatever information he thinks he can use against me.

That’s weak. That’s cowardly. And that’s exactly why I call him a boy instead of a man.

Anyway, back to Animal Control.

Animal Control received a complaint alleging that my apartment smelled badly of cats and that I supposedly had an excessive number of cats.

The officer came over, and guess what I did?

I LET HIM IN.

I had absolutely nothing to hide.

I showed him my cats. I showed him how they’re living. I explained everything that’s currently happening with KatuHouse. I explained that I’m winding the cattery down, that multiple cats have already been rehomed, that others already have homes, and that I only have a few remaining before this process is complete.

I even specifically asked about this supposedly horrible cat smell that was significant enough for somebody to make a complaint about it.

The officer did not indicate that he was experiencing the kind of odor that had been alleged.

So apparently this terrible smell that was supposedly so bad that Animal Control needed to come to my home magically disappeared when they actually got here. Funny how that works.

As far as the number of cats goes, I’m not hiding that either. North Providence has restrictions concerning the number of cats at a residence, and I currently have more than the general limit. I explained the entire situation and that the number is actively dropping as the remaining cats leave. Animal Control said they would circle back.

That’s fine.

I have nothing to hide about how these animals are treated.

At this time KatuHouse has ZERO issues with the health, safety or care of these cats. They will continue receiving the absolute best life and care I can give them until every cat that’s leaving goes to their new home.

I love my cats. I love animals. Anybody who has followed KatuHouse for any amount of time knows that.

What pi**es me off is taking a personal disagreement with ME and deliberately trying to drag my animals and livelihood into it.

I’ve built my businesses from scratch. I’ve put years of my life, money, work, stress, blood, sweat and tears into building something for myself.

You want to dislike me? Fine.

You want to argue with me? Fine.

You have a problem with me personally? Fine.

But trying to f**k with another man’s livelihood because you’re too cowardly to deal with your problem with him directly? That’s about as soft as it gets.

A grown man trying to interfere with another man’s income and potentially get his animals taken away because of a petty neighbor dispute is pathetic.

And if you’re sitting there stalking my page right now looking for your next little piece of information: 👋 Hi. Glad you’re keeping up with KatuHouse.

I’m going to try my absolute hardest to be the bigger man here because I have WAY too much to lose over something this stupid.

My patience is definitely being tested, though. 😂

So that’s where we stand today.

KatuHouse is still in the process of winding down and rehoming the remaining cats. King Kane will most likely remain active while I decide exactly what the future of KatuHouse looks like.

A little morning playtime for the kitties today. Everyone continues to do great, and there’s honestly not too much to update—which is always a good thing!

Everyone is happy, healthy, growing, and enjoying life. Just soaking up these last few weeks with the babies before they head off to their forever homes. 🥹❤️

Happy Thursday!

⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️

Last night, someone reached out to me about my kittens. Apparently, a page in Australia has been stealing pictures of my cats and kittens and using them to try to scam people out of money.

Luckily, the person who contacted me actually did his homework, traced the pictures back to KatuHouse, and reached out to let me know.

The page was called “Aussie Gentle Giants.”

Once I found out, I posted it across my cat pages and personal pages asking everyone to report it. Since then, I can no longer see the page, so either they blocked me or hopefully the page was taken down.

The page itself threw up plenty of red flags: around 20,000 followers, only 42 posts, following zero people, and barely any engagement or comments. Numbers on social media don’t automatically mean someone is legitimate.

Unfortunately, scams like this happen WAY too often.

If you’re about to spend thousands of dollars on a kitten, DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Research the breeder. Look through years of posts. Look for previous litters and owners. Ask questions. Verify that the cats and kittens actually belong to them.

Think back to high school like you’re writing a term paper — DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! 😂

🐱 Now for the KatuHouse updates!

The kittens will officially be 11 weeks old this Sunday! Everyone is thriving, growing, playing, and doing great. ❤️

And as some of you saw on my story yesterday…

Queen Ellie is pregnant again. 🤦‍♂️😂

I definitely have mixed feelings about this one.

This will be Ellie’s third litter this year. I normally prefer to keep my queens to two litters and give them time to recover, so a third litter wasn’t part of my plan.

Apparently, somebody else had plans. 😂

And NO — it wasn’t Escanor this time.

👑 King Kane has officially stepped into his role!

This will be Kane’s first litter, and I’m extremely excited to finally see what he produces. I’m hoping we get some beautiful babies with odd eyes (two different-colored eyes) and possibly some polydactyl babies. 🐾👀

I’m excited that Kane is finally going to be a father, but Ellie’s health and recovery are still my priority. Because this is her third litter this year, this will officially be Ellie’s final litter.

Once her kittens are old enough and she’s had the appropriate recovery time, Ellie will be spayed and officially retire from the breeding program. ❤️

Actually, we’re entering a pretty big transition here at KatuHouse.

All of my current queens are retiring.

The only one staying in the breeding program is King Kane. 👑

Eventually, I’ll be bringing in a new queen and starting the next chapter of KatuHouse — but this time I’m intentionally keeping the program smaller and more focused.

We’ve had a lot of cats, a lot of kittens, and a lot of memories over the years. I’m excited to see what Kane produces and where this next chapter takes us.

And apparently… we’re getting one more Ellie litter before retirement. 😂❤️🐾
