🐴 Why Rabies Vaccination Matters for Horses

Many horse owners are surprised to learn that rabies isn’t just a concern for dogs and wildlife—it can affect horses, too.

Rabies is a fatal disease that affects the nervous system and can be transmitted to humans. Horses are naturally curious animals and may come into contact with rabid wildlife such as bats, skunks, raccoons, or foxes without anyone realizing it.

The good news? Rabies is completely preventable through vaccination.

It is with mixed emotions that we share the news that Dr. Bryan Nolte will be retiring from Prescott Animal Hospital Equine Center on May 15th.

For the past 36 years, veterinary medicine has been more than a career for Dr. Nolte, it has been his life's work and greatest passion. He has loved every moment of it, and he wants you to know just how thankful he is for the meaningful relationships he has built with this community over the years. Beyond his dedication to his patients and clients, Dr. Nolte has also left a lasting impact on the profession itself, having mentored countless veterinary students and new graduates who have gone on to carry forward the same standard of care he has always embodied.
While we will greatly miss his presence at the hospital, we are excited for him as he embarks on this well-deserved next chapter. Retirement holds so many wonderful possibilities, and no one has earned it more!

Dr. Nolte wants you to know that he is completely at ease in his decision, knowing that you and your animals are in great hands. Dr. Eddis and Dr. Kalli will be taking over the cattle work that Dr. Nolte has led. All doctors including Dr. Revers are fully equipped to carry out all services including lameness exams, ultrasound, and joint injections. Rest assured, with this transition we will continue to service all of the same areas for mobile visits, providing the exceptional care you have come to expect.
