VOLUNTEER WITH US THIS WEDNESDAY 9-12 planting garlic! Although we’re closing our weekend shifts, our weekday volunteering is still open www.farmproject.org/volunteer
🧡
At PFP, a great deal of our wins can be traced to the many hands of our volunteers. Last Saturday we hosted our final weekend volunteer event of the season! These lovely people (& more who were not pictured) met for the first time that morning and quickly got to work creating their own system and roles without much verbal communication of a plan beyond farmer instruction. They practiced noticing, pivoting based on perception and choosing tasks that felt best for them. In the end reflections, a few individuals mentioned how easy and fun it was to find a flow with each other and how satisfying the experience was as a whole. This group got twice as much completed as planned, harvesting the last 2026 tomatoes and pulling the tomato plants out of the ground. They did this while laughing and learning with each other!
We are so proud of our community and so grateful for the layers of contribution that go beyond sheer productivity.

Wednesday& Friday mornings plus Thursday 4-6. Sign up today before the season comes to a close: www.farmproject.org/volunteer

We farm on land that is the homeland of the Munsee Lenape and Mohican/Mahican. Today we want to name that and recognize that this is a relationship we are still learning how to build.

Over the past year, our own Lala Montoya and Tania Hernandez-Martinez have been spending time with Lenni Lenapexkweyok Naxpankuntitam and we are honored to be building relationships with the Lenni Lenape community. We are learning what it means to be land and seed stewards together and learning about living history from them, from the seeds, and from the plants.

We are trying to move at the speed of trust. That means showing up, listening, and letting the relationship set the pace. If you or your organization are working on rematriation, we would love to share resources that we have found useful to support that work. Message us and we’ll share them with you.

We also honor the Indigenous community from Oaxaca who live here in the Hudson Valley and each season we grow Oaxacan blue corn in their honor.

And we know one day on the calendar isn’t enough. We celebrate and honor the people who have cared for this land since long before us, today and all year long.

Two hidden doors are hiding in our education garden.

Lift one and you'll find out how alive the soil beneath us really is. DIRTdoors is a new installation by local artist Emilie Houssart, part of The DIRT Project. It was installed here at the farm for Harvest Fest, but remains indefinitely!

As our Co-Director of Educational Programs, Amanda Henson, puts it: "We want someone to meet a worm for the very first time, or lift a hidden door in the ground and discover how alive the soil beneath us really is."

Bring a friend and see what you find. We're at 51 Vassar Farm Lane in Poughkeepsie.
