Another great weekend at the Tri Star Horse Show! 🐴

I’m incredibly thankful for the group of students and families I get to do this with. Watching my students put in the work, continue to improve, and support one another is what makes weekends like this so rewarding. ♥️

Not every run goes as planned, and we definitely had some tough goes this weekend. But that’s part of showing horses. Some of the biggest lessons come from the runs that challenge us the most. What matters is learning from those moments, making adjustments, and coming back better the next time. I’m proud of how my students handled both the highs and the lows.💪🏼

A huge thank you to all the parents for your continued support, dedication, and trust in our program. It truly takes a team, and I’m grateful for the one we have!💕

Thank you to everyone at Tri Star for putting on another great show and giving us the opportunity to do what we love. 😁

Proud of this crew, the progress we’re making, and the lessons we’re learning along the way.

They had a few fantastic practice rides this weekend to prepare for next year’s show season.
Watch out for them in the Youth Hunter Under Saddle, Equitation, and over fences classes!

Here is what I think… normalize making your students help set up the patterns. They are learning so many different things in those moments! Hard work 💪🏼, responsibility, creativity and memorization🧠.

It’s great to show up to a lesson and have everything ready for you; horse caught, brushed and tacked up, sometimes lunged for you, cones or poles set in place so you can practice your up coming pattern for the show. But what a trainer really sees when a student comes to the lesson ready to help set things up and excited about cleaning up their own horse is ✨Passion✨ and ✨Dedication✨.

Determination is putting in the work when no one is watching, so when you step into the show pen, you and your horse are ready for the moment. 🏆

This team put in just over 1 month of work and SHOWED out in their first show! We are so proud of you Synclair and Walla Walla Miss a.k.a. Tina. ♥️

What a great day at the Lazy J Schooling Series ! 🤠🐴

Even with the extreme heat, our students showed up, worked hard, and gave it their all. We are so proud of each and every one of them—not only for how they rode, but for their attitudes, sportsmanship, and determination throughout a very hot day.

A huge thank you to all of the parents and families who make days like this possible. From hauling horses and helping get everyone ready, to standing in the heat, cheering them on, and supporting these kids every step of the way—we truly couldn’t do it without you.

And a big thank you to Lazy J for putting on such a great schooling show and giving these riders a fun, positive place to learn, compete, and grow.

Hot, tired, dusty, and still smiling at the end of the day—that’s what it’s all about. ❤️🐴 We’re incredibly proud of our barn family!

Every rider needs a goal. 🎯

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how easy it is for riders to come to lessons week after week with the simple goal of “getting better.”

But what does better actually look like?

Without a clear goal, it can be hard for a rider to recognize their own progress. And when progress feels slow or invisible, motivation can start to fade.

That’s why I believe goal setting is such an important part of riding lessons.

A goal gives a rider something to work toward, something to celebrate, and a reason to keep pushing through the hard days.

It doesn’t have to be winning a championship or showing at a certain level. Goals can be big or small:

✨ Picking up the correct lead
✨ Keeping your heels down through transitions
✨ Riding a full lap of the arena without needing a reminder
✨ Feeling confident at the lope
✨ Learning to sit more independently
✨ Preparing for your first horse show
✨ Improving your confidence and communication with your horse

I also love the idea of having short-term and long-term goals.

A long-term goal gives you direction, but the little goals along the way are what keep you motivated. Every time you accomplish one, you get to look back and realize, “Wow… I really have come a long way.”

And that is one of the best parts of riding. ❤️

Your progress isn’t always going to look like ribbons or big accomplishments. Sometimes it’s the little things — a better transition, a more balanced seat, a little more confidence, a better connection with your horse.

Those little victories matter.

As a trainer, I want my students to know what they are working toward and why we’re working on it. I want every lesson to have purpose, and I want my riders to be able to look back and see how far they’ve come.

So this week, ask yourself:

What is your riding goal? 🎯

Maybe it’s something you want to accomplish this month. Maybe it’s something you’re working toward by the end of the year. Whatever it is, write it down and start working toward it.

Because a rider with a clear goal rides with more purpose, more intention, and more confidence.

And when the rider and horse have a goal they’re working toward together, that’s when the real magic starts to happen. 🐴❤️

Set the goal. Do the work. Trust the process. Celebrate the progress. ⭐️

Let’s have an honest conversation about lesson expectations.

Everyone wants results—but results only come when everyone does their part.

As a coach, my job is to teach, explain, adjust, and give you the tools to succeed.

As a student, your job is to take those tools home and use them. One lesson doesn’t erase months—or years—of habits. Progress is built between lessons, not just during them.

As a parent, your job is to support the process and understand that improvement isn’t always instant. Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs come after weeks of doing the boring, repetitive work that isn’t exciting to watch.

One of the biggest misconceptions in our industry is expecting a trainer to perform magic in an hour. We can identify problems, explain why they’re happening, and give you a plan to fix them—but no coach can replace consistency.

The flip side is just as important. As coaches, we owe our students honesty. If something isn’t working, we’ll tell you. If your homework needs to change, we’ll tell you. If you’re improving, we’ll celebrate it. If you’re cutting corners, we’ll address it.

The best horsemen, the best riders, and the best students all have one thing in common: they trust the process enough to keep showing up and putting in the work.

What’s one expectation you think people have about lessons that needs a reality check?
