On the last day of 2025, old brothers grazed side by side, the ground thundered with the sound of hoof beats, and nostrils blew smokey white breath as horses played in the pasture.

Horse rides were given by 5th generation horsemen, just coming into their own. Grandpa worked the ground alongside his grandsons, and dad fixed the tractor with his boys. Grandma talked with her daughters about future plans. Eggs were collected, manure moved, hay thrown, and water buckets filled.
Sometimes, I wish and hope that this little piece of ground is never covered with homes and pavement. I hope it houses playful horses, fluffy lambs, grunting piggies, and kiddos running, laughing, and climbing trees forever.
We need this. Kids need this. We need to preserve it for the future.

Back 50-80 years ago, people were crazy dedicated to this way of life. They weren't people with millions of dollars. They were small farms with dedicated people. People who shared their land and their animals.
The value of this way of life does not have a price tag. If we're going to preserve it, we must maintain its availability to the average person. It's kept alive on the backs of ordinary, responsible people sharing and working together with the hope of allowing us to live this way for the next 100 years.

There’s no trophy for this part.
No judge.
No backdrop.
No spotlight.

But this is where the real work happens.

Before the trailer gets packed and the show ring lights come on—
There are early mornings in worn boots.
There are halters and heartbreaks.
There’s brushing…
rinsing…
polishing...
praying it all pays off.

This is where champions are made.
Not in one big moment—but in a thousand little ones.
Scoop by scoop. Step by step. Day by day.

It’s the mom calming nerves behind the barn.
The dad giving feed advice in the stands.
The sibling sweeping shavings just to help.
The kid who keeps showing up—even when it’s hard.

Because it’s not just about winning.
It’s about raising kids who know how to work, how to lose, how to grow.

This isn’t just show season.
It’s life lessons on dirt floors and in diesel fumes.
And it’s worth every second.
