It's Muscle Monday!!!

The Splenius Muscle

The splenius is a large, powerful muscle running along the horse’s neck, helping support and stabilize the head and neck.

It plays a big role in extending the neck, lifting the head, and turning the head and neck from side to side. Because it’s involved in so much movement, it can become tight or overworked—especially in horses that spend a lot of time working in a collected frame, jumping, pulling, or compensating for other areas of discomfort.

This is a common area I find tension in horses. When I work on the splenius, I’m looking to release those areas of tension, sensitivity, and restriction that may affect the horse’s ability to move comfortably and freely.

✨ Healthy neck muscles = better mobility, balance, and comfort!

🐴 HORSE OWNER TIP OF THE WEEK 🐴

As an equine massage therapist, one of the biggest things I encourage horse owners to do is pay attention to the little changes.

Your horse may not be able to tell you when something feels off, but they’ll often show you:

• A change in how they move
• Pinning ears when being groomed or saddled
• Resistance to certain movements
• Changes in attitude or performance
• Sensitivity in an area that normally doesn’t bother them

✨ Your horse’s behavior is communication. Learning what’s normal for your horse makes it much easier to notice when something changes.

Regular bodywork can be a great tool for maintaining comfort and catching areas of tension early—but it should always complement, not replace, veterinary care.

🐎 Know your horse. Listen to your horse. They’ll tell you more than you think!

‼️HALF OFF TRAINING OPPORTUNITY‼️

Wild Roots is so excited to come back onto your feed with a super special announcement and opportunity 👀

We are officially building a new facility! That’s right - a brand new barn with a focus on exercise therapy is being built as we speak. Complete with 5 stalls, a camera system, individual dirt paddocks AND group grass turn out (with a track system also being installed), wash bay, vet + farrier work area, this barn will be fully equipped to take on any and all of your kiddo’s needs. Starting in the fall, we will offer a full exercise training program to match. One that focuses on a completely individualized exercise program, nutrition plan, and body therapies such as massage, red light, balance pads, and even cryotherapy 🤓

But don’t just take my word for it. Peep King’s results below…with just four months of massage + our fully individualized exercise program, we were able to completely change how this kiddo looks and functions. King came to me unable to do simple pole exercises and left conquering 3+ miles of offsite trails weekly.

In preparation for the exciting new facility and Exercise Program, WRH is offering a one time discount on ALL onsite trainings for July. Our rates will be as follows for JULY ONLY:

🔆 Exercise Program - $600 per 30 days. No minimum required. A 50% discount!
🔆 C**t Starting Program - $1,000 per 30 days. Minimum 2 months required. A 20% discount!
🔆 Trail Training Program (including offsite rides) - $1,000 per 30 days. No minimum required. A 30% discount!

We only have five spots to offer at these rates…and two are already taken 😬 What’s that saying? Run don’t walk? In this case, everybody gallop. This is a one time offer before prices match the new digs! Connect through messenger or:

South Carolina, this would be a fantastic opportunity for my former students who want to continue to compete in the western world!

Idlehurst is exploring the launch of a Western Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Team right here in the Greenville, SC area 🤎

But before we hang the team banner and start chasing points in the arena, we need to find our riders.

To officially get this off the ground, we’re looking for at least six dedicated students who are:

• Confident in the saddle
• Coachable and committed
• Ready to step into a competitive environment

So here’s the plan 👇

We’ll be hosting Western IEA tryouts this April to gauge both interest and ability before moving forward.

Think you’ve got what it takes? Or just curious what IEA is all about?

Send us a message to learn more or to get on the tryout list. Please note to cover the cost of our instructors, there is a cost for tryouts and students must be at a w/j/l level.
