We have been alerted to a post that is going viral regarding Jamaica Bay Riding Academy. We have been in touch with the owners who seem upset about the information being circulated and called it "fake news". So we had a conversation to break down the situation and get a better understanding of what was going on and what might be needed for the horses in this situation. We confirmed that yes, after over fifty years, the family is closing the business. Yes, many of the horses are for sale. Many of them are older or have lameness issues, but they were described to us as "serviceable". We are not agreeing or disagreeing with that statement because we have not met the horses in person. We were told that all of the horses are spoken for, they all have places to go, and none are going to auction. The family owns two other farms and whichever horses do not sell privately will be sent to a rescue facility in upstate NY. It sounds like they have the resources to do the right thing and are trying. We put the offer on the table that if the time comes and there are horses that still need a place, they can call us.
