🐾 **Puppy and Kitten Socialization: It's More Than Just Exposure!** 🐾

Many people know that the most important socialization period for puppies occurs between **4 and 16 weeks of age**, when they are learning about the world around them. There is also another critical developmental stage, often called the **fear period**, that can occur between **7 and 13 months of age**.
For kittens, the crucial socialization period is between 3 and 16 weeks of age.

When we talk about socialization, we often hear things like:

✅ Expose them to new people
✅ Expose them to other animals
✅ Expose them to different sounds and environments

While all of that is important, there is one piece of even more important information that often gets left out is:

⭐ **The experience needs to be positive.** ⭐

Simply exposing a puppy or kitten to something new isn't enough. If the experience is scary or overwhelming, it can actually create fear instead of confidence.🚨

When introducing new sights, sounds, people, surfaces, or situations, pair them with:
🍖 High-value treats
🎾 Favorite toys
👏 Praise and encouragement
😊 Calm, positive interactions

The goal isn't just for your puppy or kitten to *experience* something—it's for them to learn that new things are safe and rewarding.

Remember, socialization is about building confidence, not just checking experiences off a list. A positive experience today can help create a well-adjusted, confident adult dog or cat tomorrow.

Meet Peach, the chicken! This very sweet hen hatched with severe deformities to her legs which left her nonambulatory and completely dependent on humans 🙁 Her mom hadn't been away in many years and had an extremely difficult time finding someone to care for Miss Peach - until the wonderful people at Arthur's Acres Animal Sanctuary referred her to us (thanks again guys!) As many of you know, I hold a very special place in my heart for special needs and senior pets, and Peach required round-the-clock care, which we were happy to provide.

Say hello to our new friend, Cole! Cole's owners are actually Bill's best friends and this was his first boarding experience! Poor guy had a little bit of a rough time acclimating the first 2 days, but he quickly began to show his sweet, goofy personality 😊🐾💙

Some dogs just need a little extra time, patience and us to respect their "pace". 🏡

We have another new kitty friend 🧡 🐱 Say hello to Phineas! His mom is actually Enzos trainer and I swear he thinks he's part dog! This handsome boy was so incredibly playful and even started waiting by the door for me 🥰
