May Newsletter Feature: Rosie the Beagle gets Acupuncture.

After her brother Joe’s surgery, Rosie wasn’t quite herself. Stress led to an upset tummy and a loss of appetite.

One acupuncture visit, she was back to enjoying life and feeling like Rosie again.

We love seeing Rosie and Joe walk through our doors!

Dr. Sachdev loves her Frenchies! Chicago French Bulldog Rescue had a fundraiser this weekend and she had a blast seeing some of her patients and supporting a wonderful rescue! Thank you for all you do!

For anyone who knows me, you know that I am not one to post anything on social media but today is a special day. 19 years ago today Dr Kristine Preiser started her journey here at this very animal hospital that bears her name and that of her family legacy. And 19 just happens to be Dr Preiser's favorite number!

Not many of you know how much her father had looked forward to her joining the team and working beside him (although he quickly decided he had taught her everything he knows and was happy to retire!). Her father had a calendar in the office where he would mark off every rotation she was in during her final year of Vet School weeks in advance, counting down the days until she graduated. He was so proud of her for following in his footsteps (although he sometimes discouraged her because he knows the life of a veterinarian means long hours and missed family dinners at times).

Although we are celebrating her 19th Anniversary today, her journey started long before that. For those of you who have been clients for years, some of you even for generations, you know her journey actually started when she was just a young child. She followed her father into the exam rooms and "helped" him with his appointments. I'm convinced her love of veterinary medicine was born in those moments.

Over the last 19 years I have had the great pleasure and fortune to see her grow into her own as a doctor, a surgeon, a medical director (for both the hospital and 2 shelters), and as a leader for our team. She survived, even thrived, during the days when we scheduled everything on a walk-in basis. She has seen Doctors and Techs come and go over the years. She navigated the challenges of running a hospital and helping our patients during a pandemic. She has had a baby and and learned to juggle being a "mum-mum" (as Charlotte calls her) all while still giving 100% to her clients and patients. It's hard to believe Charlotte is turning 7 in just a few weeks! And last year she finally saw a full hospital renovation that her father and her started planning over a decade ago come to fruition.

I am so lucky to be able to work alongside my best friend. I hope I get to see you count down the days until Charlotte graduates from Vet School and comes back to work by your side just like your father did. Even after all these years, there is no one that I would rather work with or for, even on the hard days. Thank you for everything you do. Happy 19th Annivtodayersary, Dr Preiser! Here's to 19 more! Love, Jaimie

It's always fun to share history, but especially when our founder and my father Dr. Herbert Preiser gets mentioned by his community! His work at raising German Shepherds and improving the pedigree lines in the US gets recognized in the Chicago area! And helping his town of Northbrook in the 1970's is incredible. It's fascinating all the work these dogs and their people did!

When Border Tails Rescue temporarily becomes "Beagle Tails Rescue," our team rises to the occasion to help them! Rescued from a research lab, BTR opened their hearts to over 20 beagles to give them a second chance. This week Dr. Sarah and Dr. Richa worked hard to be there for their medical needs. From exams and treatments to surgery, our team was there! We don't know what these Beagles have been through, but we are grateful to see them get a second chance at a life of love!

Echo the Rhodesian Ridgeback came to visit us this week for his annual visit— and we have a soft spot for this breed. They’re giant love bugs- even if they can be a little shy at first. Echo prefers to be back home watching over his new non-furry babies.

Another Ridgeback patient recently scared off a coyote to protect his little brother.

Fun fact: Rhodesian Ridgebacks were originally bred to hunt lions. We love getting to know our patients and understanding every breed has their quirks helps us understand them better. Happy Friday!
