I’ve had a few people mention that Gus isn’t much of a bird dog since he gets along so well with the chickens… 😂

His upset at my refusal to get a Dove for him says otherwise 😂

This is the only time he barks, he’s a super quiet dog. But if I ignore his desire for a dove I definitely hear about it!

Marvel is taking off his winter coat! He will probably be thrilled, the boys have been getting hot!

Clipping is like unwrapping your Christmas presents for the first time, you could see the bicycle shape under the tree but now you get to SEE it! 🥰

Let the haircuts begin! Zita is losing her baby hair! So far so good, she’s not even bothered and a 5 blade is taking enough to look less crazy at least 😂🤦‍♀️ I debated leaving her home because of the “mange chic” look she had going, but luckily I think we can improve it!

Watch to the end for Anya’s new summer hairdo!

Anya is our Komondor Livestock Guardian Dog. Komondors are the large famous “mop dogs” who grow their hair in cords that can drag the ground! While I find the cords beautiful, they are not suited for 100 degree, high humidity Indiana summers. And Anya is an absolute water-lover in the heat! The cords hold that water, and give her skin issues.

She can’t do her job locked in a dry kennel! So she gets 2 quick haircuts a year and still has PLENTY of floof grown back for her winter outside (she was shaved 5 months ago for reference!)

Komondor hair grows continuously (hence the cords eventually reaching the ground) They are a fabulously good natured breed, and she has been an excellent Gaurdian for us. I couldn’t ask for a kinder, softer, gentler dog- who also has been very easy to train, introduce to strangers, and is not obsessed with escaping! 20 minutes of grooming twice a year is a great trade for her wonderful temperament!

It is a bit of a sin in the Komondor world to clip them instead of growing out the cords, but it is what works best for her, her job, and her happiness level all summer long. She’s not fighting wolves in the mountains, and there is far more of quality to the breed than just their signature hairdo! 😉

My potatoes are coming along great! I think potatoes are the most underrated crop, they are so incredibly easy to grow, with such a great yield and absolutely everyone loves them!

They’re the lowest maintenance plants, and there is no rush to harvest/preserve so they’re a great busy persons garden plant.

Does is ever fail when you get ready to head to a show that they decide to blow baby coat? 😑 I LOVE Zina’s dark chocolate new look, but the inbetween “mange” look she’s currently sporting is NOT what I hoped for the week of a goat show! I will have to see if it will trim out so she can look pretty for the show. Or decide if I want to take a “mange chic” Jr 🙄🤦‍♀️

But Aiva has listened to instructions and is beautiful and slick already! And also maybe a fatty… 🤷‍♀️😂

This is one of my favorite old videos of Lana from 6 years ago I was sending a friend today and had to share 🥰 She remains such a sweet funny ewe, despite believing herself a bird 😜

The start of my new garden fence! David spent the day helping me get it set up. Will work WAY better for keeping chickens out! I can’t wait to get it fully set up with the trellis and my sunflowers!
