Through a careful screening process, we place loving dogs into forever homes with compassionate individuals and families. We begin with an Application, which tells us more about an individual’s experience level, lifestyle, other pets, preferences, etc. so we can recommend dogs that best fit the home. Prospective adopters are encouraged to meet various dogs and to bring all family members and exist

ing pets to meet the dogs they are interested in. Once “the” dog has been selected, we perform a routine Home Visit to ensure the dog will be safe from any hazards, poisons, or dangerous situations. At this time, we advise the adopter if there are any repairs or corrections that need to be made prior to the dog coming home. Adopters pledge to love and care for the adopted dog throughout its entire lifetime. In the event an adopter is no longer able to care for a dog, we insist it come back into our rescue safety net for re-homing. Due to financial and logistical limitations, we do not place dogs outside of the Southern California area. Effective July 1, 2021, our minimum Adoption Donation is $370 plus $25.00 for microchip for dogs over 1 year, and $470 plus $25.00 for microchip for dogs one year old and younger. This donation (tax deductible as allowed by law) helps to offset the costs we have incurred for the dog’s care and housing during his or her stay with our group. All dogs adopted through GSROC are spayed or neutered, current on their vaccinations and de-wormed. Because the minimum Adoption Donation rarely covers the costs associated with each dog, we ask that adopters who are in a position to give additional funds do so at their discretion. We also ask our adopters to help us spread the word about the important work that we do.

SHELTER SHEPHERD OF THE WEEK-
Every week, we try to use our platform to promote a dog that is in a SoCAL shelter at risk of being euthanized. With 70 dogs already in our care, we do not have room to bring in ANY more dogs, so we hope that by asking our fellow shepherd lovers to SHARE, the featured dog can be adopted or rescued. We have no other information about this dog, as she is in a public shelter. Contact the shelter directly, or better yet, go the the shelter and meet her in person.

Let's all work to help VIPER find her forever home! This adorable 6-month-old Belgian Malinois was found in a box with her tiny siblings. A kind citizen scooped them up and rushed them to safety. Viper is healthy, happy and very active! She needs a family that can offer her lots of exercise as well as mental stimulation to keep her busy mind focused on positive pursuits.

Viper has great drive! She learns new things quickly and soaks up new information like a sponge. This is a great dog that you can mold into an even greater companion! Viper and her siblings have been raised in a loving foster home. They are crate-trained and housebroken, and working on basic obedience skills already.

Last week's Shelter Shepherd of the Week was RESCUED by a rescue group from the East Coast. This means that this sweet boy will have a second chance at a happy life!

Each week, we try our best to feature a shepherd in a shelter that is at high risk. Our rescue is FULL and we are not able to accept any more dogs at this time, but we want to use this platform to share, share, share in the hope that someone can ADOPT or RESCUE this very young dog! He is ONLY 1 YEAR YOUNG!

Bonnie is a special girl who needs a special home. She was found by some kind people who knew that she needed more care than they could provide. Bonnie is only 2 years old, but she is traumatized from being abandoned by her previous family. She exhibits fear of other dogs by vocalizing to tell them to, "GET AWAY FROM ME!" but in truth, this all comes from a deep-rooted fear of being harmed.

Bonnie is looking for a very quiet foster home (or forever home) where she can just relax and be herself. She wants to be an only dog right now; perhaps in time she could learn to trust again, but for now, she's a solo act. We are desperately searching for someone who will take beautiful Bonnie under their wing and help her learn that life can be filled with fun.

Say hello to Radar, a dashing and dapper dude, approximately 6 years yound. Radar has been waiting far too long to find his special place in a family. He is very well behaved, housebroken and quick to learn new things. Radar is still strong at age 6, and requires someone with the physical ability to manage him on walks.

Radar loves all people that he meets, but he is very dog selective. He is reacommended as an only dog for a family that has experience with this incredible breed. He is a catch for someone who appreciates the many facets of active German Shepherds!

This is Mack, aka Big Mac. He is 9 years old and still has the pull power of a Clydesdale. He loves other dogs, the larger the better. Mack is looking for a permanent foster home where he can live out his retirement in the comfort of a loving family. As a permanent foster, Mack will have all of his food and approved vet care sponsored by German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County. We can't stand to see this senior fellow in a kennel, so we are offering someone a wonderful dog with no expenses for care!

Mack will do best in a home without a lot of coming and going--he can become protective of "his" people or his space, so the less visitors, the better. If you live a relatively quiet, somewhat reclusive life and you would like to have a wonderful companion to share secrets with, consider permanent fostering Mack! More photos at gsroc.org.

Kovu wants to know What's Up? He can't understand why he hasn't been adopted yet when he's got so much to offer. This handsome fellow has it all---looks, presence, intelligence and loyalty. At age 5, he's done with all of the adolescent shenanigans and ready to be your wing man in Life.
