A huge thank-you to the people who sent us photos and updates of their AmsterDogs in the comment section of our post from last week. Seeing these familiar faces happy, loved, and right where they belong means more to us than we can say. ❤️

And to the people who shared memories of the AmsterDogs who are no longer with us: thank you for letting us remember them with you. They’ll always be part of our family, and the love you gave them will always matter. ❤️‍🩹

Adoption Update:
💙🩶 Sir Lake

In March 2026 there was a very sweet, very sick dog at risk of euthanasia in the overcrowded city shelter named Sir Lake 248449. He was also a senior and 81 lbs, seeming to have all the reasons we extra worry about an at-risk dog. We were so grateful to be able to rescue him and were overjoyed when he was adopted a few months later.

Recently, we received the most heart-warming update on the handsome senior gentleman. His family spoke fondly of his silly antics and let us know how chill and loving Sir Lake really truly is. Now, Sir lake truly is living his golden years with his family and friends by his side, taking lots of naps on cozy blankets, and doing his rounds of his home 🏡

Update: Beauty 💝

Beauty is settling into her foster-to-adopt home, and Beauty’s mom, Denise has been sharing the sweetest updates. Beauty has a 10-year-old doggy sister, Bella, and they’re getting used to sharing their home and family. Beauty has lots of energy and loves being outside, especially chasing tennis balls and her new favorite, a basketball she can bite and race around the yard with. She’s also happy with a stuffed Kong, frozen carrots, bananas, cranberries, and pumpkin.

She’s making progress on her walks and getting more comfortable with her routine. Denise says Beauty is doing well in her crate at night and knows it is a safe place to relax. She was even completely mesmerized by her first fire, watching the smoke and embers for over an hour.

After everything Beauty has been through, it means so much to see her enjoying the comforts of a home and showing more of her playful personality. Beauty was surrendered to the shelter in July 2026 after her previous family said their landlord did not allow pets. Beauty lost her home and was placed on the euthanasia list at the shelter.

Thank you, Denise, for giving her time, care, and room to decompress, and for sharing these lovely updates. We’re so happy Beauty is safe and getting this chance.

Faith finds her way home ❤🏡

Some of the ways that dog come into care at NYC ACC just breaks our heart and Faith 265707 is one of those cases. Her notes described a chaotic life, being bred repeatedly and alarmingly emaciated for having been "owned". Seeing her was even worse and put any of her behavioral issues in an entirely different context. A body with scars and sores, some fur missing from her tail, with all too much worry weighing down the furrows on her delicate face... and then this poor girl found herself facing euthanasia in the city shelter.

We say "just in time" and "suddenly all that changed" fairly often in our posts - and it really is true that these dogs are down to their final day, final hours, and some are even past due their deadlines. As a rescue, we are extremely honored to be able to assist in this last-chance efforts to save a life. And we hope we never stop being amazed by the incredible people that magically swoop in to make the rescue possible.

Thankfully, the magic happened for dear Faith in time with the magic being her new dad seeing picture, her deadline, and reading her story. We are so grateful to Peter for seeing the good dog behind a few behavioral issues in an endearing way, reminiscent of another beloved family dog. Thank you to her new family for welcoming her with open arms, gentle patience, lots of treats, and, for the first time in her life, her own cozy bed 💤 Faith is already doing so well, loving her post-bath towel massage so much that she made adorable piglet noises 😍🥰

📣 FAITH NEEDS A FOSTER!

Previously, we had posted Faith urgently in hopes to avoid her going into boarding but, sadly, no one stepped up for this poor girl 💔
After going through so much - almost being euthanized at the shelter, life-saving surgery generously sponsored by her supporter - Faith's life is back in limbo. Even though she is doing very well there and they thoroughly care for her, Faith should be celebrating being alive and being healthy in a home, not a boarding facility.

Can you please help this very good girl who very much deserves a softer landing?

Faith is a beautiful 8 year old black mouth cur mix and weighs 56 lbs. She is dog friendly with slow, proper introductions and loves being with people, but has no experience with cats. Faith is affectionate, well-behaved, and incredibly smart! She already knows some commands and would love to show them off to you 🎓

Faith has so much love to give and she sure is ready for good times!

Rosebud has been adopted and is now Valentina Rose!

She arrived at the shelter as a stray in July 2026 and was later placed on the euthanasia list. Thankfully, a kind woman saw how special she is and applied to adopt her.

And judging by these photos, Valentina Rose wasted no time making herself at home or covering her new family in kisses! She’s also got a new doggy sibling, Rocco, to share her life with.

Jenny, thank you for opening your heart and home to her. By adopting Valentina Rose, you saved a shelter dog’s life and gave this sweet girl the loving future she deserves. 🐾🌹

AmsterDog alumni, where are they now? 🐾

Every time one of our dogs leaves foster care for a loving home, we’re so happy for them. But we’ll admit it: we miss them, too.

Our fosters and volunteers spend time getting to know each dog, caring for them, and cheering them on as they start a new chapter. After they’re home, we often wonder…

Are they curled up on the couch?
Do they have a favorite toy or a new furry friend?
What adventures did they go on?
Are they still making everyone laugh with their one-of-a-kind personality?

If you adopted from AmsterDog, whether it was last week or years ago, we’d love to hear about your pup. Share a photo in the comments, tell us their AmsterDog name and what you call them now, and give us a little update on their life.

🌍 Atlas is Safe with AmsterDog! 🎉

At the end of August, an incredibly sad scene unfolded - four dogs were found trapped in their home with the body of their deceased owner for long enough that all four dogs had an emaciated body condition. 💔💔💔💔

Sweet little Atlas was one of those poor dogs and she was brought to the over crowded city shelter. All too soon after surviving that horrific experience, Atlas found herself fighting to survive again when she received a euthanasia command.

Thankfully, a special somebody saw her picture and read her story just in time. That special somebody is now her dad, who enjoyed being serenaded by her tractor trailer snores as she took her first freedom nap on the couch 😍 As Atlas gives her new dad gentle kisses, it seems she knows he saved her 💋

Thank you so much to Bryan for opening his heart & home to a dog who needed it most!

Adoption Update:
Charley 🤎🤎

You aren't seeing double - but you are seeing a happy tails adoption update with an AmsterDog alum, his big brother, and double the handsomeness!!

Back in April, a frightened stray dog was brought into the shelter and named Charley 252153. Unfortunately, Charley was so completely terrified and struggled so much that within 2 weeks he received a euthanasia command. Suddenly, something happened that drastically changed this poor dog's fate - his future dad saw his picture. Seeing him next to his brother now, we completely understand why that handsome face stopped his new dad in his tracks -it might have been a little familiar to him as Charley looks exactly like his first dog!

We are pretty sure that's Charley on the right, with the most adorable, devoted gaze towards the cameraman. After 6 months of the good adopted life, it is so refreshing to see the worry from Charley's face completely melted away 🫠

Thank you so much to Charley's family for this update - and for taking a chance on a good dog down on his luck. It made ALL the difference in Charley's world ❤

We are heartbroken to share that Benji has passed away 💔

In November 2024, Benji was on the shelter’s euthanasia list. Then a wonderful foster opened her heart and home to him, and AmsterDog was able to bring him to safety. For the last two years, he had a person of his own and a home where he was cherished. He was thriving, and he showed no signs of illness.

Then Benji became sick so suddenly. He began vomiting and stopped eating, and the vet visits and tests brought unexpected news: advanced lymphoma and a very poor prognosis. Benji fought with everything he had. He became increasingly weak and emaciated, and even as his medications were given by injection, his body wasn’t responding. We wanted so badly for him to pull through, but his little body could not keep fighting.

To Benji’s foster mom, thank you for loving him and caring for him so devotedly over these past two years. You gave him a home, comfort, and the kind of love every dog deserves. We know saying goodbye after caring for him so deeply must be unbearable. She shared with us a picture of Benji’s last sunset 🧡

And to everyone who shared Benji’s story and supported his medical care, thank you for helping us be there for him. Our sweet, adorably toasted nugget was loved, and he will be missed more than words can say. 🤍
