🍑💜 Finally, life's a peach -
GEORGIA is safe with AmsterDog!

When we first saw Georgia 252305 on the emergency placement lists at the shelter, reading her story was heart breaking. A 6 year old dog, discarded by their previous, chaotic family, poor Georgia had 10 dog siblings (some of which were puppies who hadn't been taught manners) and 6 young human siblings - and like you'd expect, there were issues with feeding and guess who got all the blame as they abandoned her, putting the nail in her quite literal coffin with a multiple bite history 💔 And Georgia herself? Under the stress of losing her entire life, she rapidly began losing weight and developed pneumonia, but things got even worse when she became at risk for euthanasia....

Luckily, there was a very experienced foster/adopter waiting in the wings who saw Georgia for what she was - a frightened adult dog who had only ever been in less-than-optimal situations, who missed the comfort of what little peace had been in her life. We are so grateful for her stepping up for Georgia!

Since leaving the shelter, Georgia has turned a corner on her pneumonia recovery and finally had her appetite return 👏 She is now on a 3 meals-a-day routine to help her reach a healthy weight again. Even still, this gorgeous girl is getting lots of compliments when out for a walk! 😍

Zuzu is a medium-sized delightful nugget of about 2 years old. Zuzu is highly social and friendly with people - and clearly likes to wear cute little costumes! Zuzu is all about the love, she is SO loving, and always IN to YOU! She is loyal and eager for approval. She is ok with other dogs with slow, proper introductions and has never been around cats. She would do ok with older kids, ~8+. Zuzu has a vibrant, happy personality that can't help but put you in a good mood. She is a happy-go-lucky, loving gal. Update: Charisma & Rocky Road

Charisma and Rocky Road are beginning to blossom! 🌸 It truly is so wonderful to see these dogs come alive and to see them surrounded by grassy sunshine. Their caring foster reports that these two sweethearts are still managing to be the most "tangly twins" as they begin to open up to new experiences - even meeting some new hen friends! ❤❤

Medical Update: Gloria ❤️‍🩹

Good news: Gloria's giant tumor is removed! Overall, the surgery went well enough, with the entire mass she was dragging being cut off - although Gloria also needed extensive surgery all throughout her abdomen and chest 💔 The tumor was not just elongated on the outside, but had grown on the inside, too. The veterinary surgeon removed as much of the inside tumor as possible, but left two huge incisions both up-and-down and side-to-side on poor Gloria. She is still uncomfortable, but heavily medicated and being constantly watched over by her caring foster. She has soft blankets and lots of love ❤

Sadly, the tumor is malignant. But for however long sweet Gloria has left, once she heals from the surgery, she will have a tremendous upgrade to her quality of life - finally free of the mass that had been growing on her for who knows how long. She is such a brave strong girl, we know she can turn this corner and we can't wait to see her on the other side. 💪

Recently rescued MAEVE 💜

Checking in to say..."Hey, this foster home has lots of treats!!"

Poor little Maeve was so confused when the life she had known for the past 3 years suddenly disappeared and was replaced with a kennel in an overcrowded city shelter. She didn't understand that her "family" had moved without her and sadly, things got worse for Maeve when she ended up on the at risk lists and less than a week ago, sweet Maeve was out of time.

Luckily, angels in foster form were watching over Maeve and swooped in to whisk her away to safety, snuggles, and some new friends! 🐾💨 Maeve is settling in nicely, being her sweet self and learning how to line up to beg for treats ❤

We did not receive any interest in fostering Capone 💔 He has waited another 16 lonely days since our last post. On top of the previous 400.

Without fosters, dogs suffer. Without fosters, dogs die. We can not continue to rescue dogs if the dogs already in our care aren't moving. Other rescues close their intake in these situations...💔

Please don't assume someone else will step up for him. If you can, we need YOU to say yes. 🙏

GLORIA SURGERY TODAY🚨

Since leaving the shelter, Gloria has been gaining her strength and preparing for her tumor removal surgery that was scheduled for next week. She had developed CIRDC, which weakened her system, and instead of having immediate tumor removal surgery, it was advised to let her heal fully as being a senior and sick and undergoing anesthesia could cause complications. Unfortunately, despite being on the antibiotics, the tumor suddenly became more discolored, turning purple and black on Sunday.

The overseeing vet and her loving foster jumped into action yesterday, preparing Gloria for her surgery this morning at 10am.

Between her urgent appointments and surgery prep, her loving foster made sure to take the time for extra snuggles, an easy car ride in the sunshine, and a gentle walk at sunset. Gloria is going into this surgery with a heart full of love and knowing she is loved - we believe in our strong girl!! 💪We will have more info and updates soon.

Update: Charisma & Rocky Road 🐾🐾

Interesting things happen in rescue all the time, things that inspire new ways of thinking and perspectives. Every dog in the shelter has their own experiences and, most of the time, the world they come from is very small.

Charisma and Rocky road are settling in and are absolute "loveys". After all they've been through, they are understandably shy and still need decompressing - and a foster who recognizes this and is willing to meet them at their pace with patience & love is worth their weight in gold! They are doing well overall and in amazing hands. ❤

The interesting part is that every so often, when rescue dog enters their new home - they don't know what stairs are. They have never seen a staircase, nor had experience with step-depth. These pics are their first time ever seeing steps - and they could not turn around fast enough!

The well-known saying, "To us, our dogs are only a small part of our life. But to them, we are their whole life." is very true. These amazing dogs are about a year old or less: they have only been so many places, they have only experienced what they were exposed to. Of course, dogs have incredible spirits, can learn so many new things, and can truly blossom into their best, confident selves.

But that takes time. And, sometimes, step one really is taking that first step...

Thank you so much to their caring, patient foster for spending time using treats and positive-reinforcement only, without being pushy. ❤❤

The best way to care for a dog is to take the time to think from their perspective, respecting the equality of this beautiful bond we are so fortunate to have in our lives.
