Would like to announce that we are up to $1700 in sponsorships for a winter series!

An enormous shout out to ARB Creations LLC. They really have put an enormous amount of effort in to make this happen. Thank you so much!

Along with a few other great people who have helped. We need $100 for one show- we need $3700 for the rest of the three show series.

So excited to put this together and be able to offer it to the community!

If you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring please send us a message!

UCHC Obstacle Course Challenge was a blast. We love these- they help keep barrel horses minds working and active. Gives them a chance to go out without running. Overall it also gives riders a ton of confidence as they have to navigate tricky tasks on horseback. Obstacle course challenges also secure horse and rider relationships. Proud of everyone especially my daughter, who was 5 out there able to do some obstacles on her own with Al. So much fun.

WINTER INDOOR SERIES.

Did I get your attention? 😆

We have the opportunity to offer an indoor winter series in Orange County. Which we are IMMENSELY grateful to be able to offer. There’s a heated viewing room. Easy parking and driveway. There’s also an outdoor for warm up. Good footing. The facility is beautiful and it’s an a great opportunity to offer barrel racing to the lower Hudson valley.

With that being said- the arena rental is the cost of your first born child 😅. WE NEED ARENA RENTAL SPONSORS TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

This post is to gauge interest but also this:

We are proposing an interesting proposal. Any rider that gets $1000 in sponsorship money (all goes directly towards arena fee, or added money if arena fees are covered)- will get free open entry fee to any race we have there for the 2026-2027 winter season.

What are your thoughts? We’d love to add another place to run this winter, that’s quality, warm and close to home.

$10 Handicap Class
A Great Producer... and a Great Question

Dearest Readers,

Every once in a while, a submission lands in our inbox that isn't about bad ground, bad producers, or bad sportsmanship. It's simply a question worth discussing.

The person who sent us this made one thing very clear: This is not a dig at the producer.

In fact, they praised the event, saying the ground was excellent, the facilities were great, everything ran smoothly, and the producer did an amazing job. They even told us they won money, so this isn't coming from someone upset because they didn't place.

Instead, they wanted to ask the barrel racing community about one particular class.

The race offered a $10 handicap/schooling class, advertised for horses that needed a confidence-building run, were coming back from injury, trying new tack, futurity horses, or simply needed a "real run" before the Open. (Love the name, btw 😏)

According to the advertisement and the submission, the format worked like this:
☕️ Pay $10 and make a run.
☕️ If you like your time, you can pay the Open entry fee and carry that run into the Open.
☕️ If you don't like your run, you can pay another $10 and run again.
☕️ Repeat until you're satisfied, then carry over the run to the open you want - or don't.

The question raised to us isn't about the race itself. It's whether this format creates an even playing field for everyone entering the Open.

The submitter told us they watched riders make multiple attempts in the handicap class before carrying over the run they wanted into the Open. They also stated that many of the top Open placings reportedly came from carry-over runs out of that class.

On one hand, you could argue that the opportunity is available to anyone willing to enter.

On the other hand, if one rider gets multiple opportunities to dial in the perfect run before paying the Open entry fee, while another enters the Open and only gets one chance, does that create an advantage?
Some competitors may view it as smart strategy.

Others may view it as a "glorified expo" that allows riders to effectively buy extra attempts before competing for Open money.

Again, this isn't about whether anyone broke the rules. From everything submitted to us, the class was run according to its advertised format.

The bigger question is whether this is a format the sport should embrace.

Should riders be able to make multiple $10 attempts and carry over their best run into a $100 Open?

Or is it simply another strategic option that competitors should understand before they enter?

We're curious where producers, professional riders, and contestants stand on this one.

Fair game? Or does it unintentionally create an uneven playing field?

Always Observing,
The Bettys ☕️

Good afternoon everyone,

Due to a number of circumstances we are going to be canceling the show tomorrow: all added money will be added to the first show of the 2027 season!

We appreciate everyone’s support, and all of the new faces that have shown up this season and we look forward to seeing everyone next year!

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
