Got helmet stank?
My helmet and gloves stank like a menâs locker room. I ride multiple horses a day, and then, like the moron I am, I put my gloves inside my helmet and zip them both into my bag. So the stink justâŚmarinates. Like my college boyfriendâs hockey bag.
Lots of my riders have said theyâve washed their helmet liners, but it doesnât really help. Let me give you the prescription for a FRESH HELMET!!
1.) remove the liner (all oneK liners are removable)
2.) wipe the inside of your helmet THOROUGHLY with a Clorox wipe (you didnât do a good enough job. Do it again.)
3.) wipe UNDER the MIPS liner as much as you can without harming the mips liner- itâs not a good idea to remove it. So donât.
4.) put the helmet outside, upside down in the sun to dry and leave it there for a couple hours.
5.) get your TIDE SIMPLY + OXI and wash your gloves & helmet liner on a hot cycle with whatever else youâve got to wash.
** hereâs the kicker! You canât wash stink with stink. Youâve got to wash the liner and your gloves with laundry that doesnât stink of the barn. Be brave. Itâll be okay.
6.) HANG your liner and gloves outside to dry. *the dryer just heats up stink. Donât do it.
7.) once dry, snap the liner back into the helmet and commence to re-applying stink to it.
**Repeat as needed. And also, maybe donât zip sweaty stink into your helmet bag. You arenât a hockey playing dude. You know better. **
Voila! Youâve got a fresh, delicious, CLEAN helmet!
And REMEMBER- your helmet is only good for 5 years or one good fall. REPLACE your helmet every five years falls or no. Seriously. Donât f**k with your brain.
