Spur Ridge Vet Hospital

Spur Ridge Vet Hospital Mixed Animal Practice in Central Kansas
•Striving to inspire pride in our community
•Offering excellence in veterinary care and customer service

Spur Ridge Vet Hospital, PA was established in 2004. Our mission was to become a first-class mixed animal hospital that our clients and community could take pride in. We hoped to accomplish this goal by offering state-of-the-art equipment and technology, a caring and capable staff, and the ability to offer quality care for both large and small animals. We set out to deliver a hospital and patient

care such as one would find in a large city without compromising our small town values and rural surroundings. As the field of veterinary medicine changes, it is our conviction to stay abreast of the latest information and treatments regarding the small animal, equine, and food animal divisions of our practice. In return, we hope to attract friendly, knowledgeable clients who want the very best for their animals, and whose whole-hearted satisfaction is of paramount importance to us.

⭐️ Please join us in welcoming our newest veterinarian, Dr. Schumacher! ⭐️

Dr. Emily Schumacher grew up in southwest Kansas on her family’s farm, where her love for animals first began. She was actively involved in 4-H for 11 years, showing animals and developing a strong passion for education and mentorship. She went on to attend Kansas State University for both her undergraduate studies and veterinary school, earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 2026.

Dr. Schumacher has a wide range of professional interests, including general small animal medicine, livestock care, and equine sports medicine. She is excited to bring her knowledge and enthusiasm to our team and to care for the pets and animals in our community.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Schumacher enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, Jake—whether that’s working on projects, fishing, or playing with their two dogs.

We’re thrilled to have her on our team—be sure to say hello when you see her at the clinic!

While the weather has been doom and gloom outside this week, we had the opportunity to bring a life into the world this morning. After hours of labor and not advancing, this momma goat went in for an emergency c-section. Dr. Hull and his support staff were able to save the life of this cute little buckling and his mother 🐐

🦷 February is Pet Dental Health Month! 🦷

Dental health is about so much more than fresh breath—it’s a key part of your pet’s overall well-being. Just like people, dogs, cats, and horses can develop painful dental disease that often goes unnoticed until it becomes severe.

Why dental care matters:

Dogs & Cats 🐾
Over 80% of pets show signs of dental disease by age three. Plaque and tartar buildup can lead to:
• Painful gums and loose or infected teeth
• Difficulty eating and weight loss
• Bacteria entering the bloodstream, affecting the heart, liver, and kidneys
Routine dental cleanings and exams help catch problems early, keep your pet comfortable, and can even extend their life.

Horses 🐴
A horse’s teeth grow continuously, and sharp points, hooks, or uneven wear can cause:
• Trouble chewing and poor digestion which can lead to bigger problems such as colic
• Weight loss or dropping feed
• Behavioral issues under saddle
• Pain that often goes unnoticed
Regular dental exams and floating help keep your horse comfortable, performing well, and getting proper nutrition.

The Bottom Line:

Dental disease is painful, progressive, and preventable. Professional dental care—combined with good at-home hygiene—helps your animals stay happier, healthier, and pain-free. Call us to get your dental procedure and/or float scheduled today!🦷🐾🐎
