🩺 Cooper came to see us because he was coughing, panting a lot, and his belly looked swollen.

His workup gave us the answer: heartworm disease. Heartworms live in the major vessels of the heart, which is why the signs show up in a dog's chest and in his energy.

Cooper started heartworm treatment. It is a long road, and the injections go deep into the back muscles, so he is getting plenty of gentle handling and rest along the way. We are rooting for this good boy. ❤️

Heartworm comes from a single mosquito bite, and year round prevention is the easiest way to keep your dog off this road. If your pup is due, ask your vet about a heartworm test and a prevention plan.

✂️ Diddy came in for a tail wound. He went home almost three pounds lighter.

Grooming had gotten hard at home, and Diddy is not always a fan of it. By the time he got to us, the mats had taken over.

We cleaned and treated his tail wound and started him on medication. Then our technician team went to work with the clippers and carefully shaved him down, taking off close to 3 lbs of matted fur. Underneath all of it was this sweet face. ❤️

Matting can become a health issue because it pulls on the skin, traps moisture and dirt, and hides wounds like Diddy's. If grooming at home has gotten away from you, it's okay. Ask for help early and let someone help take it off safely.

8 Weeks Ago, This Lake Dog Couldn't Put Weight on Her Leg🌊

This 6.5-year-old Lab is a true athlete who lives for the water and doubles as a hunting dog, so her legs work hard. Back in May she came to us with lameness and a torn right cruciate ligament. In June she returned for MMP surgery to repair it.

This video shows her 8-week recheck, and we could not be happier: Coco is doing great on that leg and is ready to start slowly reintroducing activity over the next four weeks. Cruciate injuries are one of the most common orthopedic problems we see in active dogs, and with surgery plus a patient, staged return to exercise, dogs like Coco get back to doing what they love.
