Simply Joking Breezes Through a Rainy Morning at Churchill

With temperatures dipping and steady rain falling in Louisville, the daughter of Practical Joke headed out to the Churchill Downs dirt track for an easy 5-furlong breeze in 1:01.20 for trainer Michael McCarthy.

Weather often plays a role in training schedules, and with rain in the forecast, the team adjusted Simply Joking's routine to get her breeze in today. Unfortunately, that change also meant making the disappointing decision to cancel Saturday morning's training event at Churchill Downs.

Instead of a more exciting morning workout, Simply Joking will head out tomorrow for a simple, uneventful lap of jogging—and sometimes, boring is exactly what you want!

But don't worry, we're already working on another opportunity! We're planning a morning training event at Keeneland once Simply Joking ships to Lexington, giving shareholders another chance to see her in action. Stay tuned for details!

Meanwhile, nominations for the October 31 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint G1 at Keeneland are due tomorrow, and we'll continue to keep everyone updated as the list of potential contenders takes shape and decisions about her participation are made.

It's an exciting time for Simply Joking, and we're looking forward to seeing what the coming weeks bring.

Munny Problem Workout Report
Munny Problem had his first work back this morning at Fair Hill, covering a half mile in :48.80. We caught up afterwards with trainer Mike Trombetta, who reported that your son of Munnings worked like his usual self. We are going to look towards a maiden special weight on Nov. 1 at Laurel. We had the conversation of trying the dirt to see if that unlocks any additional improvement, and Mike is open to that possibility. Laurel is offering maiden special weights sprinting on the dirt and turf on that day, but it is unlikely that both races will be used, so we'll try the dirt if that's the race that goes, but may also return to the turf if that's the option that's available to us once entries are taken.

Natural Beauty '25 Update

We just wanted to report on where we stand with Natural Beauty ’25. While she was entered in the Fasig-Tipton October sale, we never planned to sell her there. We did, however, go ahead and have them complete her walking video and conformation shot, as well as X-rays and scope as if she was going to the sale so that we could further evaluate her.

As you’ll see in her walking video, she has not improved much--she’s quite weak in her hocks, is offset in her right knee and toes out on that side, and toes in left front. The good news is that she vetted perfectly.

We do not consider her a viable prospect for any sale. Our partner Gainesway does not wish to own her moving forward, and we are currently waiting on their proposal on how they would like to handle a transfer of ownership. After that we will decide what is best for the filly and the group.

Woodburn Update

Woodburn has been back jogging at Fair Hill for about two weeks, and will do that until the end of next week, when farm manager Bruce Jackson expects him to be ready to gallop. All has gone smoothly so far and he’s taking the increased activity in stride.

Last week, the son of Life Is Good made his return to training on the track at Gulfstream Park following his recovery from a minor upper-airway procedure in September.

The c**t has been doing well since returning to exercise, and the Gustavo Delgado team will continue gradually building his fitness and introducing more speed over the coming weeks. The goal is to ease him back into a regular training routine while giving him plenty of time to adjust to each increase in workload.

For now, Life Is So Good is looking terrific, and we're encouraged to see him back on the track and moving in the right direction!

We'll continue to keep everyone updated as he progresses toward a return to full training.

Bacio: Workout

Bacio worked five panels in 1:02 flat outside of the dogs (cones) at Keeneland this morning. The Ward contingent was happy with the move, and Wesley reiterated that your c**t “is as fast as a racehorse will come.” Bacio will likely have two more works on the following two Saturdays ahead of his start in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
