Podcast Episode: Dog Training And Pet Care

Pip: Good Behavior Dog Training has a lot to say this week — about old dogs, stranger's hands, holiday garbage cans, and the spiritual life of your Labrador. Mara: That covers the territory well, actually. Good Behavior Dog Training published across training fundamentals, canine consent, seasonal pet safety, and a new faith-based program called Faith, Fitness, and Fido. Let's start with the training questions — specifically, whether age is ever really the obstacle owners think it is....

Walking By Faith, Fitness & Fido™

Walking by Faith Life often feels like a journey down an unfamiliar path. Some days the road is smooth and clearly marked. Other days it seems covered in fog, making it difficult to see what lies ahead. As believers, God does not call us to walk by certainty. He calls us to walk by faith. The Apostle Paul reminds us:...

Always Ask Permission from the Owner AND the Dog | Good Behavior Dog Training

Why Asking the Dog Matters: Understanding Canine Consent and Respectful Greetings Most people know they should ask the owner before petting a dog. Unfortunately, that's often where the conversation ends. An owner may say, "Sure, go ahead, he's friendly!" and within seconds a stranger reaches over the dog's head, pats them, hugs them, or invades their personal space. While the person's intentions may be kind, one important voice has been left out of the conversation:...

🐾 Always Ask Permission from the Owner AND the Dog! 🐾

Most people know to ask the owner before petting a dog. But did you know it's just as important to ask the dog?

Dogs are individuals with their own feelings, preferences, and boundaries. Just because a dog is friendly doesn't mean they want to be approached or touched by a stranger at that moment.

After receiving the owner's permission, give the dog a choice. Stand calmly, avoid reaching into their face, and allow them to approach you.

✅ Approaches willingly
✅ Soft, relaxed body language
✅ Leans in for interaction
These are often signs the dog may be interested in saying hello.
If the dog turns away, moves off, avoids contact, or seems uncomfortable, respect the answer. The dog has politely said, "No thank you."
Remember, many dogs prefer gentle contact on the cheek, chest, or side of the neck rather than a hand immediately reaching over their head.
When we give dogs a choice, we build trust. When we respect their choice, we strengthen that trust.
🐶 Ask the Owner.
🐶 Ask the Dog.
🐶 Respect the Answer.
Because consent isn't just for humans.
