Everyone could use a little support when life becomes hard.

My name is Sean, I’ve started The Pet Keeper Project as a support network for dog owners. When life becomes difficult and the thought of surrendering your dog becomes a reality, this is a place to turn to for support before surrender.

It’s a community of people that care about dogs and want to offer whatever support they can. We all know dog shelters are overcrowded and need help, so by lending a hand to dog owner, we can help keep their dog at home and out of a shelter. It not only helps the family, it’s one less dog in the system.

Did you know it’s quite common for a dog to be returned to a shelter after they’re adopted?

I was on Paws Saving Paws weekly Sunday Live, where they do amazing work trying to bring awareness to shelter dogs and dogs who are on the euthanasia list. 😢

They mentioned that a large number of dogs had been returned to the shelter.

Do you think it would help keep the dogs in their adopted home if they had a dog trainer or behavioral specialist attached to the dog?

Why do you think they’re returning the dog? Am I right to think behavioral issues are part of the problems?

Let’s find Daisy a new Home 🌼

Daisy is a 6-year-old spayed Australian Shepherd who is fully vaccinated, healthy, and has no known veterinary concerns. She is currently being fostered by us after we took her in from a family member who was no longer able to keep her.

Daisy is an extremely sweet, affectionate, and people-oriented dog. She thrives on companionship and loves to be near her people. She is very loving, seeks out attention, and forms strong bonds with the people she trusts. She wants to be included in daily life and is happiest when she is spending time with her family.

Daisy does have some behavioral challenges that potential adopters should be aware of. She can be reactive toward other dogs, particularly unfamiliar dogs, and has shown possessive behaviors around toys and food. Because of this, we believe Daisy would do best as the only dog in the home. We also recommend an adult-only home where her environment can be more predictable and her boundaries can be respected.

How do you use this kind of dog collar?

I could probably it and find the answer, but this seems like a good learning moment.

I’ve taken care of a lot of dogs and this is the first time I’ve run across a prong collar.
