Let us be so for real right now... Chewy is the dog of your dreams! You gotta come meet this good boy! 😍

Chewy is about 5 years old. He is very smart and already knows commands: sit, stay, lay down, and come. He is very eager to please and loves to use his noggin. Many describe him as, "calm, curious, respectful, sweet, playful, goofy, and friendly." He has enjoyed many Mass Street Mutt outings, which have included every dog-friendly business on Mass St, sorority houses, scholarship halls, and was even a "working" dog for a day at Bluestem Heating & Cooling and Rick's Place !

Here's what people had to say about Chewy: "He just seemed to genuinely enjoy everything we did, from meeting people, to the car ride, to the bone in his backpack, to a pup cup. He was sweet from the start but really opened up even more as the day went by and I hope Chewy can soon have his own family, bed, and bones." - MSM volunteer

What outstanding reviews from his Mass Street Mutt adventures! Chewy can be with other dogs in the home but we would love for them to meet first. He would do best in a home with no cats and older children as sudden movements can sometimes startle him. Chewy is struggling in the shelter and we can't wait for him to find a loving home to call his own - maybe it's you?! We are open every day of the week from noon to 6pm. Come on in and let us tell you in-person how wonderful Chewy is!

Autumn is the perfect time to 🍂 fall 🍂 in love with a new best friend. Pumpkin carving, leaf peeping, long walks, sitting by a fire outside, snuggling up under a soft blanket...you name it, they're ready to enjoy the best time of year with YOU! 😍 And this Saturday (Oct. 24), all our animals' adoption fees are waived thanks to our pals at ASPCA - woohoo!

When you adopt or foster even just one animal, you free space and resources for shelters to give more animals the care they need. When we help one, we help many - that's The Rescue Effect!

We are open for adoptions every day of the week from noon to 6pm and have so many loveable animals waiting to meet you! All adopted pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Check out all our animals who are available for adoption by visiting lawrencehumane.org/adopt!

It's been a wonderful couple weeks movin' and groovin' together for our 2026 Paw Valley Challenge! In past years, we've hosted this event in the spring but we must say...we're so glad we moved this walking challenge to October! 🤪 There's really just no better time to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather!! Check out all these adorable photos from our participants, they are sure to make you smile! We even have an entire Kindergarten class logging their outdoor walks!

PS - Paw Valley ends Saturday night and we look forward to celebrating all the miles walked and money raised with all our awesome participants at PETCHELLA 2026!

We can't wait to celebrate PETCHELLA 2026 with YOU this Sunday, October 25th! We hope you can join us for the ultimate pet-friendly party of the year hosted by Lawrence Humane, Rick's Place, Revival Room, and The Peoples Market! 🎶 🐾

From 1-5pm, the parking lot at 9th and Illinois will be packed with tail-wagging fun and the best vibes around ✌️

We'll have plenty of animal-themed vendors, live music, food trucks, and a pet costume contest (perfect timing for Halloween!) All entrants will be able to walk the red carpet with their pet and show off their costumes - so fun! The costume contest will begin at 3:30 and all entrants need to be signed up by 3:15pm. You can get ahead of the game sign up for the contest at the link in the comments below!

Sip on signature cocktails, craft your own friendship bracelets, enter to win an exciting raffle basket, and snap the perfect Instagrammable pic at our photo booth. We’ll even have the KU vs Duke game on inside Rick’s Place.

This event is pet-friendly, but animals MUST be leashed and in control by their owners at all times. Boho dress code encouraged for humans and pets alike!

We had the best time at the 19th annual Zombie Walk this week! The chill in the air and the misty weather made for a perfect spooky environment as the horde showed up and showed out! 🧟‍♀️🧟

We sold out of our limited edition Zombie Walk shirts, but it's not too late if you'd like to order one! The online order form will remain open until noon on Monday, October 19. If you'd like to order a shirt, just go to https://lawrencehumane.jotform.com/262786013207859

We've added a few additional sizes and you can choose to pick up your shirt at the shelter or have it shipped to you. Sammy, Waylon, Bob, Cosmosphere, and Knight are just a few of our adoptable dogs who have gotten to enjoy the season on their recent Mass Street Mutts outings. They - and so many of our other adoptable dogs! - would love to do allll the autumnal things with you! Isn't Misha an absolute dreamboat?! 😍🛥️

This 1.5 year old retriever mix is dog friendly, cat friendly, kennel trained, super snuggly, and 99% house trained (hey, transitions are tough - no judgement!) He walks well on a leash, is the smartest boy who is happy to learn tricks for treats, is scared of his own t***s 💨😂, and has been lovely with children he's met on walks. Sounds like the perfect family dog if you ask us! 😉

Misha is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and his adoption fee is just $150! While he normally resides in foster care, Misha is going to be at the shelter today from noon till 3pm, meeting potential adopters. So don't wait! We're open for adoptions 12-6pm - throw your coat on and scoot on over to the shelter to meet Misha!
