KODAK DIDN'T have much time left. Real story from all we can see. Not a clickbait meme. Richmond Police Sgt. Paul Greer reportedly took his long-time partner for a final ride Monday morning. Greer worked an estimated 11,000 hours with Kodak. The 9 year old German Shepherd had suffered some injuries and Greer said he "knew" while sitting out with Kodak on a porch recently. The "team" went through sixteen weeks of handler training together in Chesterfield County, Virginia. After Kodak's retirement when his health started failing, Greer adopted him and took him home (as is often the case with police K-9's. Reportedly Kodak's mobility had gone south and his appetite got inconsistent. Greer told his wife he didn't know why but he was going to wear his uniform that morning. The wife caught video of the pair. Greer was talking with him and Kodak unexpectedly lifted his front paws with great effort and laid them on Greer's shoulders. The vet, Dr. Malone, said, "In twenty-two years of practice, I have never paused during a procedure. I paused Monday morning. That dog raised those paws with everything he had left. That was not a reflex. That was a goodbye. And I wasn't going to rush it."

Kodak was honored with a formal tribute by the Richmond PD on Tuesday.

Greer said, "... at the very end, when he could barely move, he lifted his paws and held on. He was telling me it was okay. That we were okay. I'll carry that for the rest of my life."
