We wanted to give you a little update on Candy—now lovingly called Dallas! ❤️🐾
She is doing amazing, but she still has a long road to recovery ahead of her, with the possibility of surgery in her future.
Mentally, Dallas is doing incredibly well. She has gained 3 pounds in the last week! Much of that initial gain was from much-needed rehydration, but she is also beginning to gain actual body weight. Her ribs and spine are becoming less pronounced. She remains on a very rigid feeding plan, with careful attention being paid to her caloric requirements and fat content as her body continues to heal and recover.
Yesterday, Dallas was seen at Southwest Texas Veterinary Medical Center for more in-depth diagnostics and to begin discussing potential surgical plans for the future.
Unfortunately, some of our worst fears were confirmed regarding her left eye. She has several incredibly concerning ulcers, and the plan is to begin an aggressive course of medication in hopes of saving the eye. Images have also been sent to an ophthalmologist for additional input and guidance. Additional lab work and a urinalysis were submitted as well and are currently pending.
Dallas also has masses in her right ear that have likely been causing problems for quite some time. Those will be addressed once she is healthy and strong enough for further treatment.
Thank you to DK Aws and the AWS Freeman-Fritts Animal Shelter & Clinic staff who came together for Dallas, pulled out all the stops, and helped get her on the road to recovery.
Thank you as well to the wonderful staff at SWVMC for everything you did for her yesterday and for agreeing to be part of her continued care moving forward.
And most of all, thank YOU to our donors and supporters.
You are the reason Dallas is here today. ❤️
We will continue to keep you updated as this sweet girl continues her journey toward healing. 🐾❤️
