It’s been a while since I posted this handsome fellow. He’s doing excellent and is still by far my calmest snake. Great eater, so gentle, so curious. 💜 Marshmallow, my B.c. longicauda.

Just a quick reminder: Inspiration Exotics is ANTI-AI. Our entire business model is based on ethics, and this applies to AI too.

If you’re a show promoter who uses AI flyers to advertise your shows, we will not vend with you. If you’re a reptile breeder or educator who designs flyers or your logo using AI, we will not buy from or promote you in any way. If you’re an individual using AI to look up care standards, we will not sell to you.

Human beings are the backbone of every community. Human artists and scientists deserve to be paid and recognized for the work that AI platforms have stolen from them. And if you’re willing to use AI to cut corners in marketing, I have no way to know what else you cut corners on. General care? Quarantine?

It’s not a risk we’ll take. We are openly and proudly anti-AI. Keep this in mind when trying to contact us or work with us.

Unfortunately, this season, nature did not have my back. 😭 I had four gecko pairs this year: 2 crestie pairs, one Eury pair, and one sarasinorum pair. They all laid eggs but only two out of around 26 eggs ended up being fertile and those two are still incubating. 😭 Not sure what didn’t go right this year, but hey, there’s always next year. And next year will be my first year pairing chahouas too!

Hi y’all! I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce the person behind the account, since I have some new folks. My name is Kayla! I’m a public librarian, and as you all know, also an ethical reptile breeder and educator in my spare time! I am super passionate about information transparency both in my job and in the reptile hobby, which is why I am super open and honest about the breeding process, why I do it, what I disagree with, and how I am constantly trying to improve. Sometimes you might see me disagreeing with common breeding/keeping practices. I think critical discussion is extremely important to make sure we’re always doing right by our animals. You can ask me about my animals, genetics I do and don’t work with, enclosures, etc. at any time.

I also love photography, horses and horseback riding, creative writing, reading, and I love learning and helping other people learn. Pictures are from my recent horsey trip to New Mexico. I’m in the Indianapolis, IN local area. Thank you all for following!

Thank you so much to the Owen County Public Library for having me out for a reptile education program! I LOVE introducing folks to reptiles (snakes especially), busting some myths, and letting people interact with these amazing creatures!

This handsome guy is growing so well!! My jani pine snake from Morgan Carpenter. I got him for the purposes of educational programs and he is one of the calmest, gentlest snakes I own - he’s going to do great.

I really love the trinket snakes. This is my younger female who is still growing up. People ask me about their personality. She’s definitely the spiciest trinket I have, but she’s almost all bluff - she makes herself look scary like this but very rarely actually strikes, and is completely fine once she’s in my hands. It’s adorable, honestly. And she’s the only one I have that will really do this. By and large they’re an incredibly chill species.

This chahoua from The Chahoua Chamber is growing into such a gorgeous gecko. One of my favorite things about chahoua is that you never really know what you’re going to get. This one won’t be ready to breed this coming season, but I have two chahoua pairs I’m planning to put together this fall!

Hazel was one of the first snakes I ever bought. She’s a hissy lady but so calm once she’s actually out, and I looooove that reddish tone she has. I debated selling her for a bit because my hognose plans have changed, but I bought her from Tom Harbin Reptiles before he passed, so she’s never leaving.

I’m in New Mexico this week (shout out to my amazing boyfriend for taking care of all of my critters!) and found two herps on my very first day here!! The first one is a garter - I’m guessing the black-necked garter, Thamnophis cyrtopsis. The second is some species of Sceloporus (spiny/fence lizards) but I couldn’t tell you what species. The last picture is me holding both in one hand in an attempt to get pictures, because I found the garter while I was heading back in the house for my phone to take a picture of the lizard. 😂
