We have tested SIX dogs positive for heartworms TODAY at the clinic.

Please please please consider getting your dog started on heartworm prevention. It is a very small price to pay to prevent congestive heart failure in your dog due to heartworm infestation. Heartworms are always deadly if not caught and treated early but the best treatment is always prevention.

If you have dogs less than a year old, we can just get them started as long as we have an updated weight. If they are over 1, we need to do a simple in house blood test to ensure they are negative to get them started. No appointment needed, just come by when we are open so we can prevent these terrible parasites in your dogs!!

The price on prevention is about ten dollars a month and the testing is around 35. Come see us Friday for a heartworm test and make sure that your dog is protected!!!!

‼️Livestock owners‼️

I know most of you are aware there has been 4 confirmed cases of the New World Screwworm in Texas the last few days.

This is a developing situation and we are watching it carefully.

What it means for you:

Be vigilant and watch your livestock and observe wildlife for wounds.

If you have animals with open wounds (trauma or surgical - castration, dehorning, etc) they need to be treated with fly control— Catron if possible- and cleaned as often as possible until healed.

If you can wait and do elective procedures in the winter months that would be ideal.

Please report anything suspicious to me or your local state veterinarian. —Any maggot infested wounds need samples taken
—wildlife with large wounds need to be investigated even if you find them deceased.

THIS WILL affect the transit of livestock across state lines. We have already seen states changing requirements and it’s changing daily.

PLEASE do not assume health papers are going to be ‘business as usual’ from here on out.

Dog and cat owners- it is now more than ever imperiative we keep our small animal pets on the oral (or new injectable!) flea and tick prevention as this prevents the new world screw worm maggots in them.

Please note that ticks are HORRIBLE already this year so don’t forget your dog and cats protection! We have one month and three month pills and the new once a year shot to prevent them on your pets! This is one big way to keep them out of your house and off of you!!! 🚫🕷️🚫.

‼️‼️. Effective immeadiately, all animals seen in our clinic (yes, even nail trims, a**l glands etc) will be required to be up to date on rabies before we complete these services.

We have always required them for spays/neuters etc but have gotten lax in the last few years about the other services.

Rabies vaccine is safe and effective. It saves lives and creates a barrier between us and wildlife. This is non negotiable and if you don’t comply or ‘believe in vaccines’ we won’t be able to perform elective procedures on your pets.

As you may have noticed, our office has been a little busy lately! We are trying to make some changes to help things flow better.

As part of that, we are implementing a new software system!!! We are very excited about it and it starts tomorrow. The ladies in the office have worked really hard to learn this new system but there will be some hitches.
