Headin' Home Pet Rescue, Inc.

Headin' Home Pet Rescue, Inc. Headin' Home Pet Rescue was founded in 2008 by Dr. Jim Bader and Merri Van D**e.

We have placed numerous animals (dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs) in new homes and our mission is to provide the best care to our animals during their stay at the rescue and place them in a home dedicated to helping beyond their needs. In 2022, Emily Wolters and Kenzie Shannon followed their dream and continue to manage the rescue. Dogs are adopted out spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm

and tick disease tested if old enough, and current on all core vaccines. Cats are adopted out spayed/neutered, microchipped, FIV and FeLV tested, and current on all core vaccines.

Welcome home, Simba! 🐾❤️

Basking in the sunshine and discovering a new friendship, Simba and his new cat sister are a beautiful reminder of what adoption can do. We can see that it's the start of a very special bond.

We're also celebrating Simba's wonderful adoptive mom, who absolutely adores him and has opened her heart and home to give him the love he deserves. Every cat deserves the chance to find comfort, companionship, and a forever family—and Simba has found all three.

Here's to sunny days, new friendships, and a lifetime of love. Welcome home, Simba!

🐾 Welcome Teddy & Buster to the Rescue! 🐾

These handsome boys are officially ready to find their fur-ever homes! ❤️

We don’t know much about Teddy and Buster’s previous history, but we were told they came from the same home and were later surrendered to another shelter. That shelter became overwhelmed with incoming animals, so we welcomed these two into our rescue ❤️

While Teddy and Buster came from the same home, they have been staying separately at the shelter to give each of them more space and individual attention. They have both been doing well apart, so they do not need to be adopted together. However, they are familiar with one another and get along well, so we would adopt them together too🐶🐶

Both boys are approximately 3 years old. Our best breed guesses are:
🐾 Buster (more red) – Lab mix
🐾 Teddy – Doodle

These boys are full of life and energy—still puppies at heart! They would greatly benefit from obedience training and an active family that can provide plenty of exercise, structure, and love.

We are still completing additional dog testing, so proper meet-and-greets will be required for any resident dogs. At this time, they have not yet been cat tested.

If you’re looking for a fun-loving companion (or maybe even two!), Teddy and Buster would love to meet you. Please share to help these sweet boys find the forever homes they deserve! ❤️. We are also looking for foster homes for them!

A huge THANK YOU to all of our amazing volunteers and supporters who brought back returnable cans and bottles to help our rescue cats and dogs! 🐶🐱♻️

Every returnable donated helps provide food, medical care, shelter, and love for animals waiting for their forever homes. Your kindness truly makes a difference, and we couldn’t do this without you.

We are so grateful for this caring community and everyone who takes the time to save and return those cans and bottles for our furry friends. ❤️

Last night, our dear Willie Nelson experienced another neurological episode that turned into a severe seizure. We had worked with the doctors to come up with a plan to start seizure medications, keep him comfortable, and give everyone a chance to say their goodbyes over the next few days.

But after Emily picked up his medications and began bringing him back to his kennel, Willie experienced another episode. At that point, we knew that for Willie’s sake, the kindest thing we could do was say goodbye that evening. Kenzie rushed in, and thankfully many of Willie’s girls were already there working, surrounding him with love until the very end.

Although Willie never got the fur-ever home we had all hoped for, he had a family here that loved him so incredibly much. The Mapleview kennel crew made sure he had the very best life, filled with long walks, play yard adventures, cozy naps, and endless love.

Our supporters helped provide his special I/D low-fat canned and dry food, all the best snacks, and the veterinary care he needed. Volunteers Lisa and Dave spent extra time spoiling him with pup cups and walking adventures. Volunteer Sue helped make a cover for his beloved bed, so he could sleep on a bed fit for a king. Emily’s parents, Scott & Lori, along with alumni Buddy, were even working on helping transition Willie into living with them.

Willie was so deeply loved by so many people.

Willie, you will be missed more than words can say. Tell all our friends at the Rainbow Bridge how much we love and miss them too. 🌈🐾

Darcy will be deeply missed. She was such a sweet and beautiful Irish Setter.
Her mom so kindly donated some of her favorite things to us, kibble for Quill, Bill, and Rocky, fresh-made food that George will surely love (and maybe even share!), pill pockets that have been so helpful for Willie, sweet potato treats that Razzle enjoys, and all the soft treats Cooper happily approves of. Buster and Teddy, our new friends, have also been enjoying the peanut butter cookies.

Thank you again to Darcy’s family for thinking of us during such a difficult loss. We are truly honored to use Darcy’s things in her memory and to share them with so many happy pups. ❤️‍🩹
