Last night, our dear Willie Nelson experienced another neurological episode that turned into a severe seizure. We had worked with the doctors to come up with a plan to start seizure medications, keep him comfortable, and give everyone a chance to say their goodbyes over the next few days.
But after Emily picked up his medications and began bringing him back to his kennel, Willie experienced another episode. At that point, we knew that for Willie’s sake, the kindest thing we could do was say goodbye that evening. Kenzie rushed in, and thankfully many of Willie’s girls were already there working, surrounding him with love until the very end.
Although Willie never got the fur-ever home we had all hoped for, he had a family here that loved him so incredibly much. The Mapleview kennel crew made sure he had the very best life, filled with long walks, play yard adventures, cozy naps, and endless love.
Our supporters helped provide his special I/D low-fat canned and dry food, all the best snacks, and the veterinary care he needed. Volunteers Lisa and Dave spent extra time spoiling him with pup cups and walking adventures. Volunteer Sue helped make a cover for his beloved bed, so he could sleep on a bed fit for a king. Emily’s parents, Scott & Lori, along with alumni Buddy, were even working on helping transition Willie into living with them.
Willie was so deeply loved by so many people.
Willie, you will be missed more than words can say. Tell all our friends at the Rainbow Bridge how much we love and miss them too. 🌈🐾
