You have heard us tell you before that our store owner has a lot of experience in the showring, showing hogs, market goats, and steers and her siblings showed lambs. She showed though Ottawa County 4H, with FFA, and personally around the state and even at NAILE.
She is also an active sponsor of youth organizations that help train kids to properly raise and show market animals. From providing prizes for top showmen and putting on showmanship clinics and 4H meetings, her goal is always to educate and support kids.

In fact, she has even started her own kids learning to raise their own project animals! This show season her 4 oldest kids are raising hogs to show in the MIPigs Youth Challenge show circuit. Jalaina is in the PeeWee division and the triplets, Jolie, Jaxton, and Jocelyn are in the Beginner Showman division. They are having a blast and are learning so much about feeding, daily care, and showring skills.

If you want to learn more about how market animals are shown we encourage you to go to your local fair this summer and watch a show. Or, try to attend a show for one of the species show circuits. For example, tomorrow at the Hudsonville Fairgrounds is the Bleed Gold Showdown FFA sponsored Hog Show. It begins at 9 AM and will continue throughout the day. We will be there cheering the Smallegan kids on and also with a Piers store booth. If hogs are not your preferred species we can help you find a show for lambs, goats, or steers just give us a call or text.

You got new chicks this Spring, right? They are growing like a w**d, getting feathers and running all over the place by now, right? Eating you out of that first bag of chick feed quickly, right?
So you think you'll just pick up a bag of any old chicken feed, WRONG!!!! STOP!!!! NO!!!!

Chicks must remain on a chick feed from hatching until the very first egg is laid. Then and only then can their systems handle a layer specific adult feed. For most breeds of hens this will take between 16-18 weeks.
When your chicks are close to that age stop in and we will help you choose which feed to transition them to for their adult lives.

Have you put down Step 2 in your lawn fertilizer program yet? Now is the time to put it down! This is the broadleaf w**d prevention step. It should be applied when your grass is damp from dew or rain and you should not plan on watering or mowing for 24-48 hours after the application.
Stop in today to grab a bag so you are ready to apply the next time the grass is thoroughly damp.
