Happy Saturday, friends!

We’re sharing a heartwarming update from Pterodactyl the Polydactyl, who was adopted in August 2025.

“She has completely settled in and has made herself at home. She runs the house here and loves to let me know her opinions on everything. She has such a spunky attitude, super playful, and loves to cuddle, but only on her own terms. She even allowed me to dress her up for a quick picture on Halloween. “

Updates like these remind us how special the bond between people and their pets can be.

We’d love to hear about the animals who have made a difference in your life. Share a photo or tell us about your pet in the comments. What’s their name? What makes them unique? What brings you joy about having them in your family?

Thank you for helping us celebrate the pets who make our lives brighter every day.

Summer weather is here, and as temperatures rise, it's important to help keep pets safe and comfortable.

Here are a few hot-weather reminders from Columbus Humane:

- Always provide access to plenty of fresh, cool water.

- Whenever possible, keep pets indoors during the hottest parts of the day.

- Never leave a pet unattended in a parked vehicle. Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a car can become deadly within minutes.

- Hot pavement can burn sensitive paw pads. Before heading out for a walk, place the back of your hand on the pavement for seven seconds. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pet's paws.

- Limit outdoor exercise during hot, humid weather. Walk dogs in the early morning or evening when temperatures are cooler.

- Make sure outdoor pets have access to shade and shelter from the sun at all times.

Know the signs of heat-related illness: excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, confusion, or collapse. If your pet shows any of these symptoms, move them to a cool area and contact a veterinarian immediately.

A little extra caution can help keep pets safe all summer long. Stay cool, Columbus!

Meet Cremini. Yes, just like the mushroom.

Got plans this Friday? No, you don’t. You’re busy obsessing over photos of this tiny puff of sunshine who has somehow mastered the art of looking adorable while actively plotting nonsense.

Cremini’s hobbies include:
- Serving looks
- Overestimating her jumping abilities

Her red flags?
- May attack shoe laces with little to no warning
- Has never paid a single bill

Honestly, we’re just living in Cremini’s world.

Tell us: what do you think is going on behind those eyes? Wrong answers only. ⬇️

What a day, Columbus!

Today’s free vaccine clinic at Potter’s House Church in Columbus was a powerful reminder of what is possible when community comes together. Over 300 pets received care today, all at no cost to their families.

At Columbus Humane, helping pets in need spans far beyond our shelter walls. Preventive care like vaccination protects individual animals, reduces disease transmission, and builds healthier more resilient communities, so more pets can stay healthy and home with the people who love them.

If you missed today's clinic, please visit columbushumane.org/lowcostvaccineclinics for our full clinic schedule and answers to important questions about vaccinating your pet.

We're so proud to have been joined by veterinary students from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, who helped provide hands-on care for hundreds of animals while building the experience they will carry into their future veterinary careers.

Thank you also to Michael Stinziano (Franklin Co Auditors Office) for helping pet owners get their dogs licensed — a simple but critical step in reuniting lost pets with the families who love them.

Most of all, thank you to every pet owner and volunteer who showed up today. Your commitment to your pets and your community made this event possible.

Community-supported care like this only happens with community support behind it. If you’d like to help more pets access lifesaving vaccines and preventive care, please consider making a gift at bit.ly/46KLww9
