Adoption update from the foster mom.

When my brother reached out to me about a dog who needed a new home, I looked at the picture and thought, “Sure, I can take that little poodle mix.” 😂

Then I met him…

SURPRISE! He’s a Bernedoodle! 🤣 A Bernese Mountain Dog/Poodle mix—and definitely NOT a little dog! And if you know me, you know I’m not exactly a “doodle person.” 😂

But let me tell you, Manning was amazing. He fit right in with my pups, and I quickly grew to adore him. He was a little interested in the cats, but he was never aggressive.

Then a family reached out about him. They had recently lost their beloved Goldendoodle. They love doodles, and Manning absolutely loves them.

So Manning got his happily-ever-after. 🥰 He’s now Murphy, and he’s being completely spoiled—and I couldn’t be happier for this big boy!

Cute and Cuddly Kittens!

Meet Fanta, Crush, Pepsi and Cola! They are 7 week old siblings who are fearless, super playful and love to be cuddled and purr. Fanta and Crush are orange tabby girls, while Pepsi and Cola are grey tabby boys.

A local rescuer was doing TNR work when she found four tiny babies who were skinny and malnourished, with terrible eye infections. She rescued them, fostered them and made sure that they had all of the vet care that they needed.

They are very healthy now, playful and silly. They have tested negative for FIV and leukemia and should be ready for adoption by mid-October. These little cuties are great with other cats, calm dogs and older children. They are available to visit for approved adopters.

Teddy Update

Teddy gave us quite a scare on Sunday. He seemed perfectly normal on Saturday night, but on Sunday morning he refused to eat dry food, canned food, Pupperoni or even cheese. His breathing also became very labored. With his grade 5 heart murmur, it seemed like this was just going to be his time. We took him to LiveWell Animal Urgent Care in East Nashville.

The vet was concerned and recommended a chest x-ray to look at his heart and bloodwork. He found that Teddy was not yet in heart failure and his bloodwork indicated pancreatitis. The vet said that his breathing was labored because he was in so much pain. 😢

Teddy was prescribed pain and nausea medication and he needs to be on a low-fat diet to prevent the pancreatitis from returning. Within 24 hours, Teddy was eating again, helped by Rory indicating that he would be happy to eat Teddy's food if he didn't want it. Teddy has been gradually improving and yesterday he finally found his voice again. After 4 days of silence, it was wonderful to hear him whine that Mom was taking too long to serve dinner.

Teddy has a new Amazon wishlist for his new low-fat dog food and treats. He has tried both the canned and dry foods and loves them both! Please consider helping Teddy continue to feel better by donating an item from his wishlist. Teddy is 16 and a half now and still going strong!

Hawaiian Cats for Adoption!

Meet Leilani and Lilo! They were both rescued as strays living outside in Hawaii by one of our fosters. She brought them back to Nashville with her two weeks ago.

Leilani is a lovely petite calico girl who is one year old. She was rescued from a food truck park on the island of Oahu. She is sweet and affectionate with people, but would prefer a home with no other pets.

Lilo is a pretty black kitten who was dumped at a taco truck in Hawaii. She was very skinny and scared when she was rescued but she is healthy and happy now. Lilo is about 3 months old and is great with other cats.

Leilani and Lilo have been fully vetted and will be going to the Madison PetSmart next week.

Happy Adoption Update!

Flagella is a lovely 10 year old Siamese mix girl who transferred to Freedom Farm from Cheatham County Animal Control. While she is generally very friendly, Flagella did not do well at PetSmart. After a week there, we began getting complaints about her trying to bite and scratch people. So we had her moved to a wonderful cage break foster.

Flagella was thrilled to have a whole room to herself, windows to look outside, a soft bed to sleep in and lots of cuddles from her foster dad. While she was on cage break, her foster dad's sister came to visit. She absolutely fell in love with Flagella and decided to adopt her. Congratulations, Flagella!!!

At Freedom Farm, we never give up on any animal because of behavior.
Instead, when an animal is struggling, we think of more creative ways to help them. If you are interested in being a cage break foster, please let us know. It is just a two week commitment to provide a cat from PetSmart with some time in a real home where they can enjoy having more space and getting more attention. Most of our cage break kitties come back to PetSmart and get adopted almost immediately.

Trixie’s Story

Meet sweet Trixie! ❤️ This beautiful 10-year-old Chihuahua mix came to us after Horse Plus Humane Society reached out to ask if we could give an older Chihuahua a safe place to land. Of course, we couldn’t say no—we have a soft spot for Chihuahuas!

Trixie arrived already spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped, and it didn’t take long for her foster family to completely fall in love with her. She is just the sweetest little girl and has so much love to give.

But her foster family noticed that Trixie walked a little differently and had difficulty with stairs. We had her examined and took X-rays to find out what was going on.

Sadly, we discovered that Trixie’s back right leg had been broken in three places at some point in her life—and it had never healed properly. 💔 We can only imagine how uncomfortable she must have been living with that for so long.

The good news is that Trixie is now getting the care she deserves. She will be on medication to help keep her comfortable and maintain her quality of life. Because of her medication, she will need routine blood work to make sure her organs are tolerating it well.

Despite everything she has been through, Trixie has remained the sweetest, most loving little girl. ❤️ She doesn’t let her past define her, and she still has plenty of love left to give.

Trixie may be a senior, but she has so much life and love left in her. She deserves a soft bed, a loving family, and someone who will cherish her for the rest of her days.

Texas Tom Update

Poor Texas Tom got some bad news from the vet today. He has tested positive for all 3 types of mycoplasma. One of these is a parasite that attacks red blood cells. He will be starting 30 days of antibiotics and weekly Vitamin B-12 shots today and get retested at that time.

Mycoplasma is a serious condition, particularly for a 13 year old FIV positive cat who is thin and weak. Despite how awful he feels, and how people have failed him in the past, Texas Tom is the gentlest soul who just wants love.

He is so happy to be safe and comfortable indoors with plenty of food, that he purrs often. Texas Tom just wants to nap somewhere soft, have plenty to eat and all the cuddles that he can get. Prayers would be appreciated that he will be able to make a full recovery.

Honey is the tiny 2 year old orange tabby girl who gave birth to 7 kittens inside the roof of the Dollar General in Hartsville, TN. She took great care of her own kittens and even took care of 7 other kittens in her foster home.

Honey is now spayed and ready to start enjoying the single life! She weighs just 5 lbs and is very playful, easygoing and friendly. Honey is great with other cats, calm dogs and older children. She will be heading back to the Madison PetSmart soon to find her forever family.

Meet Puma 🐾❤️
Puma’s story started with someone leaving him behind—but thankfully, someone else refused to leave him without hope.
When Puma’s previous owners moved away and left him outside, a sweet lady in White House stepped in to make sure he was cared for. Although she wasn’t able to take him into her home, she faithfully made sure Puma had food and water every single day. ❤️
Eventually, she reached out to one of our wonderful adopters, who welcomed Puma into their home at the beginning of July and gave him the safe place he needed while we searched for his forever family.
At around 2–3 years old, Puma is still a young guy with SO much love to give. He recently visited the vet and was an absolute champion! He handled every vaccine and even his bloodwork without so much as a flinch. Talk about a brave boy! 🥰
Puma is neutered and FIV positive. He is incredibly sweet, loving, and VERY vocal—so if you’re looking for a cat who will happily tell you all about his day, Puma may be your guy! 😻
He doesn't mind big dogs at all and has been wonderful with them. Because Puma is FIV positive, he hasn’t yet had the opportunity to meet other cats in his foster home, so we are looking for the right situation where introductions can be handled thoughtfully.
More than anything, Puma deserves what every cat deserves: a family who will never leave him behind again. ❤️
After everything he’s been through, we’d love to see Puma finally get his happily-ever-after. Could you be the person who gives this sweet boy the forever home he’s been waiting for? 🏡🐾
Puma is ready for his second chance. Now he just needs you. ❤️

Interested in giving Puma his forever home? Send us an email at [email protected] to learn more about this sweet boy and how to apply for adoption! 🐾❤️
