Let's talk about cats 😸 A lot of people believe that their indoor cat does not need veterinary care unless they are sick. But this is totally FALSE! Yearly vet visits and preventative care could add years to your cats life! All cats need to stay up to date on vaccines, monthly flea/tick preventatives, and routine bloodwork. Cats like to hide it when they don't feel well, so often times a physical exam or a full blood panel could help diagnose problems that would otherwise go unnoticed.

This goofy goober is Kodi, who came in for eating a ton of watermelon rinds. We induced vomiting and we did see the melon rinds AND some pizza and strawberries 🍉🍕🍓

This time of year we see a lot of dogs who ate things they shouldn't have 🤭 From watermelon rinds to corn cobs to socks and underwear, we've seen it all! If a dog CAN ingest it, they will 😅

He was recently rescued from Texas and is currently being treated for heartworm 🫀 Although heartworm is more common in the southern states, it is still recommended to keep up with monthly heartworm prevention all year long, no matter where you live! Heartworm treatment can be painful, expensive and takes a long time to clear up. So trust us, it is just not worth the risk!! Speak with your vet about heartworm testing and heartworm prevention at your annual visit. Or call us today to speak with one of our amazing technicians ☺️

This handsome young man is Strider! He came in over the weekend for vomiting, and we fell in love with him and those beautiful puppy dog eyes 🤎🩵 Strider has what is called Heterochromia, which just means that his eyes are two different colors! Some breeds like australian shepherds or cattle dogs, huskies and border collies are more prone to carrying this gene. And we think it just makes them extra special, like Strider 🫶

Finally the warm weather is here! And with Summer right around the corner, we wanted to share some Summer time tips to avoid injury/illness and vet visits!

🥵 If you are hot, so is your pet! Keep your dogs cool and out of the heat this Summer. Always make sure they have fresh cool water available, keep walks short on those hot days, and never leave your dog in a hot car!!
🌽 If your dog is at the family barbecue, keep them away from corn cobs! Most dogs will eat them whole and this is a serious risk for a GI obstruction, so just avoid the corncobs completely!
🌊 If you take your dog swimming, make sure to dry them completely after and keep their collars/harnesses off until they are dry! Trapping moisture on your dog's skin can lead to hot spots, or ear infections. Especially for those allergy prone pups!

These two cuties are Sid and Phoebe, who both ingested some raisins over the weekend 🫢 Raisins and grapes are both toxic to dogs. If ingested, they can cause acute kidney injury and even kidney failure if not addressed. So Sid and Phoebe were lucky that their owner brought them in! We are happy to report that both Sid and Phoebe are doing well at home now ☺️
