Speak for the Unspoken We save special needs dogs and give them their best lives. SPEAK! for the Unspoken is a registered 501(c)(3) pet rescue located in the Columbus, Ohio area.

We're a 501(c)(3) foster based pet rescue located in the central Ohio area, but with fosters over a 5 state area including Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania. We are a foster based rescue, devoted to both animal rescue and education. We focus our rescue efforts on special needs animals, most often those with hearing and vision impairments. Most of the animals we save are double merle Australian Shepherds born with vision and/or hearing deficits due to inappropriate merle to merle breeding practices. We believe special needs dogs are capable of living happy and healthy lives, and we work to educate the public about these amazing animals. Our Mission statement is “Special needs, good deeds. We see possibilities, not disabilities.” Our mission reflects the fact that we also will assist any animal in need whether it be an exceptionally difficult medical case---like cataract surgery to return vision to an otherwise normal Aussie, or a litter of puppies at risk of parvo in a shelter environment. These special dogs are truly amazing creatures that overcome their disabilities with courage and grace. Until the careless breeding stops, we will continue to find these special dogs the homes they deserve.

Meet Zayden! 🐾

Mr. Zayden is a 2-year-old, 16-pound little chill dude whose best-guess breed is a Mini Aussie/Poodle mix. 💙 His favorite activities are snuggling and sleeping, thus earning him the very appropriate nickname “Potato.” 🥔😴 Zayden is visually impaired, with a little peripheral vision in one eye, and is also hearing impaired—but he doesn’t let his vision or hearing problems slow him down! He loves exploring the backyard and will need a fenced-in yard so he can safely learn where his boundaries are. 🌳

Zayden may have some neurologic issues, as evidenced by some compulsive behaviors, and he is currently in the process of being evaluated. He is redirectable and would do well with lick mats, Kongs, and other interactive toys to keep his busy little mind occupied when needed. 🧩 Zayden does not have an aggressive bone in his body. He is an absolute marshmallow who just needs a little time to warm up. 🤍 He startles easily and does best when approached from his left side, where he has a little bit of peripheral vision.

Zayden does well with other dogs and is relatively submissive. 🐶 Another dog in his forever home isn’t mandatory, but he would probably benefit from having a canine buddy around. He will chase cats, but he is easily redirected. 🐱 He is also working on potty training—he knows exactly what to do once he gets outside, but he hasn’t quite figured out how to ask to go out yet.

Zayden is truly one of the easiest fosters his foster parents have ever had. 🥹 He’s a sweet, snuggly little Potato who deserves the very best forever home—one that understands his unique needs and will give him the time, safety, and love he needs to thrive. 🏡💙 Zayden is located in Kalamazoo, MI. Coco has been with Speak! for TWO years and deserves a hope to call her own. She is in search of a foster or adopter who can open their hearts to this sweet girl.

Coco-

A beautiful five-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound is ready to be the absolute center of your universe. As a proud independent lady, she is looking for a loving home where she can be your one-and-only pet. She sports a few minor scars that offer a small glimpse into her younger days, but today, she is just a big, beautiful sweetie waiting for the perfect forever family to accept her wonderful quirks.

Now, Coco is a girl with a vibrant personality, which means you’ll get a warm, very vocal welcome when you first meet her. Don't worry, though once she settles down, her hound-dog excitement melts into pure, calm affection. Her absolute favorite pastime is lounging on human beds and couches, though she is a polite lady who sometimes expects a special invitation before she hops up to snuggle. When she gets a burst of pure joy, she will grab her favorite stuffy or a pillow to share with you, hoping you'll engage in a delightful game of "chase me" to match her happy energy.

When it comes to house manners, Coco is an absolute dream. She is completely potty trained, enjoys free-roaming privileges without causing any mischief, and already knows commands like "sit," "shake," "inside," and "let's go." She strikes the perfect balance between needing moderate outdoor exercise and mastering the art of the afternoon nap. On outdoor adventures, she is a very strong girl who gets quite enthusiastic, so using a gentle lead leash could help her polish her walking etiquette.

Because of her proud hunting heritage, she has a high prey drive and a wonderfully quirky, socially awkward curiosity about other pups. Coco will need slow introductions to other dogs of her size. For this reason, she cannot live with cats, small animals, or other dogs—she simply wants to soak up all your love guilt-free! Thankfully, she absolutely adores people and kids, making her the ultimate loyal companion for a family looking for a single-dog superstar. If you're ready to embrace a perfectly imperfect, sweet hound who will match your joy and steal your heart, Coco is ready to welcome you home.

Prince, affectionately known as Meatball, is a goofy, fun-loving Frenchie with a BIG personality!

Prince is an 8-month-old male French Bulldog weighing 32 pounds. He is playful, affectionate, great with kids, and loves being part of whatever his people are doing. He knows sit, shake, and bed, has an excellent recall, and takes redirection very well. He responds well to a firm “no” and does well with clear boundaries and consistency.

Prince does have some leash reactivity that will need continued work and training. He can also be pushy with other dogs, especially when playing, but he has been good with bigger dogs who can tolerate his rough-and-tumble play style. A smaller or more timid dog would not be the best match for him.

His cherry eyes occasionally come and go, but his vet has confirmed they are not currently causing him any issues and would only need to be addressed surgically for cosmetic reasons at this time. Prince doesn’t need a fenced-in yard or another dog in the home. He’s a sweet, hilarious, entertaining boy who will keep you laughing and absolutely make himself part of the family!

Uno, Dos, Tres, and Seis have all found their forever homes! 🎉

These four sweet pups started their journey with us as part of a litter of eight, and now they're off to write their very own happy tails stories with families to love, adventures to enjoy, and plenty of snuggles ahead!

We recently rescued a sweet mama and her litter of EIGHT adorable puppies! And while we know they're 100% cute, we've been dying to know what breeds make up this precious crew!

Meet Baloo! 🐾 Baloo is looking for a new foster or adopter!

He is a 1–2-year-old Great Pyrenees mix with a heart as big as his fluffy paws and a story that proves just how resilient dogs can be. Weighing around 50 lbs, Baloo has already overcome so much, from surviving life on the streets of Oklahoma to bravely fighting and beating parvo. Through it all, he’s remained sweet, trusting, and full of love. 🐾✨

Baloo is deaf, but don’t let that fool you. This boy is smart, capable, and eager to learn. He knows sit, no, potty, come, and lay down, and is currently working on stay with his foster family. Like many Great Pyrenees, he has a bit of a stubborn streak 😉, but with patience, consistency, and a confident leader, he truly shines.

This handsome guy is fully potty trained, walks nicely on a leash, and enjoys car rides 🚗. He’s not a fan of crates, but he does wonderfully in the home and loves being part of daily life. Baloo thrives outdoors, whether he’s playing, exploring, or simply lounging in the grass (or snow!) soaking up the sunshine 🌿☀️. And when it’s time to relax, expect gentle kisses and lots of affection.

Baloo gets along well with other large dogs 🐶 and would likely love having a playful canine companion, though it’s not required. He does best in a home without cats, and with kids ages 9–10 and up, who can respect his space and help him continue learning. A fenced yard is preferred so he can safely enjoy his favorite outdoor time.

Now thriving in his foster home with three other dogs, Baloo is ready for the next chapter of his life, a forever home filled with patience, love, and guidance. He’s looking for someone who sees past his challenges and recognizes the loyal, goofy, affectionate best friend waiting underneath all that white fluff! 🤍

Meet Artemis Storm!

Artemis is a 4-year-old male German Shepherd/Husky mix weighing around 100 pounds. He is potty trained, good with other dogs, and gets along well with older kids.

Artemis is the perfect companion for someone who stays active! He loves to go for a long walk and play a good game of fetch. He loves to play with other dogs and does really well with other large dogs.

He is crate trained and only slept in his crate for the first few weeks in his foster home as he does great sleeping in his dog bed at night.

As is common with his breed, he does shed a lot but he will not get on furniture which makes cleaning up his hair easy! He is an excellent listener. If he is told to sit and stay at the top of the stairs while his foster dad is doing laundry, he will be waiting there when he is finished!

Artemis has the potential to be the best trained dog in his furever home. He would make the best addition to your family!
