Crossroad is 9wks old! How did this happen? Beating the odds from day 1, found in the middle of the street during a lull in severe storms with flooding. When found by an observant traveler, he still had his umbilical stump, eyes closed and by his weight, he was about 24hr old.

From his fall from a car during a stop, he lost part of his tail and has a 'tipped' ear, but this does not stop him from being one of the most striking tabbies we have seen. Once he reaches 3lbs of weight, he will be neutered and ready for his forever home!

Keep an eye out for this handsome boy to be listed for adoption.

On Thursday, we posted a quick graphic on what to do when you find newborn kittens. We mentioned ways of monitoring kittens to determine if kittens have been abandoned by their mom - Observing from more than 35 feet away, Video camera, Game Cameras... And by ringing the kitten's 'nest' with a wide band of flour.

This low tech solution allows you to walk away and allow momma cat to come back, feed and care for her kittens without detecting the eyes of predators watch her... Yes, you are considered a predator to a feral cat and watchful momma in survival mode. This allows you to wait 3 hrs and then check to see if her footprints are in the flour.

Newborn kittens are very fragile and momma's milk is better than formula. Stealing kittens from Momma is not cool, and uses up resources needed for true orphan kittens.

When to intervene - thin, dirty kittens are not receiving care from momma; she has not been back for some time. Plump, sleeping kittens are being visited by momma.

Newborn kittens, with wet umbilical cords, or attached placenta out in the open are in danger, kittens found under a bush, or tucked into a dark corner should be watched for mom's return.
