EHV-1 Notice and Immediate Protocols:
Hey Cooper's Creek Family! We have been receiving questions about the recent EHV-1 outbreak, and wanted to share the following information with you.
First EHV-1 is a serious situation with confirmed horse deaths in Texas and exposure spreading daily. EHV-1 is a contagious virus that can cause fever, respiratory illness, and in some cases neurologic symptoms. Early action and good biosecurity are essential to protect our farm and horses. While humans cannot get the virus, we can spread it to other horses as it may be on our skin, tack, boots, helmets, etc.
In effect immediately:
1. No one is permitted to bring in brushes, tack, water buckets, feed buckets, or equipment to be used on our horses that have been at any other barns or near any other horses.
2. If you travel between barns, you must practice good biosecurity. You need to shower and change clothes and make sure riding helmets, boots, and clothes are properly washed and sanitized (get some Lysol disinfectant spray and spray things down) before traveling from one barn to another.
3. No hauling horses on or off property. This is not a new policy, but we want to make everyone aware we don't allow this for these exact reasons.
Just like COVID, we will be prepared, but not panic. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Kaitlyn or Sam (330) 419-0875.
Thank you!
