Camp Timberwoof: Week One - What an Adventure!

Well, campers… that’s Week One at Camp Timberwoof officially wrapped up! And what a week it has been!

We’ve had the full Camp Timberwoof experience - fun, games, sunshine, rain, new challenges, new friendships… and, of course, a little imaginary raccoon-related chaos!

Those pesky fake raccoons were back causing trouble at the Snuffle Café, leaving our campers with quite the mess to deal with. This Camp Leader had to have quite the chat with campers about their housekeeping! Luckily, our Camp Clean-Up Crew was on hand and ready for action, working their way through the snuffle mats and getting everything back in order. There’s nothing our campers can’t tackle when they put their noses and paws to the job!

And today? Well, today was all about ACTION! Our enrichment add-on saw campers take on the Camp Timberwoof Assault Course, putting their bravery, agility and problem-solving skills to the test. There were obstacles to conquer, challenges to navigate and proud pups along the way.

Also......The Camp Houses have been chosen!

After completing their very important house-selection mission, every camper has now chosen their Camp Timberwoof House - and that means their very first Camp Badge has officially been achieved!

If there is one thing the team at Paddington Paws is rather good at, it’s the great pivot! And boy did we need to do this yesterday when the rain came down and showed no interest in stopping.

So, instead of one Exploratorium visit, our campers were treated to two… and for some very enthusiastic campers, three or even FOUR visits!

And were they disappointed?

Absolutely not.

In fact, they appeared to have decided that politely queuing at the Exploratorium door was the most sensible thing to do. Clearly, our campers understand the importance of good manners when there are sensory adventures waiting inside!

So, as we close the book on Week One, we can safely say that our first week at Camp Timberwoof has been a roaring success.

We’ve made new friends.
We’ve tackled new challenges.
We’ve earned our first badges.
We’ve survived imaginary raccoon attacks.
We’ve conquered an assault course.
We’ve mastered the art of the great rainy-day pivot…

And we’ve had one heck of a lot of fun!

Next week, we’ll be continuing our Camp Badge Challenge, with more badges to earn, more adventures to discover and brand-new enrichment games making their debut at Camp Timberwoof.

We can’t wait to see what our campers get up to next…

Tuesday at Camp Timberwoof: Houses, Heroes & a Raccoon Disaster!

It was Day One at Camp Timberwoof, and our campers arrived full of energy and more than ready to begin their camp adventure!

First order of business? Getting everyone sorted into their Camp Houses! And our campers took this very important responsibility extremely seriously. Well… most of them did.

We have four Camp Houses: Camp Explorer, Camp Adventurer, Camp Discoverer and Camp Happy Camper. To find out where each pup belonged, we set up a special enrichment game featuring four different scents, with each scent representing one of the houses.

All the pups had to do was pick their favorite.

Simple, right?

Well… for some pups, absolutely! They knew immediately which scent was calling their name and proudly selected their house.

Others preferred to take a more considered approach. There was sniffing. There was investigating. There was deep contemplation. There may even have been some “Hmmmm… let me smell that one again” before finally - and I mean FINALLY - making their decision.

But eventually, every camper found their place, and our Camp Houses were officially formed!

Unfortunately, the peacefulness of camp did not last long.

DISASTER STRUCK!

This afternoon, we discovered that a group of mischievous raccoons had somehow managed to sneak into camp and wreak absolute havoc in our Snuffle Café. Cereal boxes, water bottles and food containers were strewn everywhere. It was, quite frankly, a disgraceful state of affairs.

Thankfully, we had some add-on enrichment Camp Clean-Up Crew on hand!

Our campers rose to the challenge and got straight to work, using their noses, brains and excellent foraging skills to clean up the raccoon-created chaos. And what a fantastic job they did!

By the end of the day, the Snuffle Café was looking considerably less like a raccoon convention and considerably more like a respectable camp facility once again.

All in all, it was a fantastic first day at Camp Timberwoof. Our campers explored, sniffed, investigated, made important house decisions, tackled a raccoon-related emergency and worked hard at their enrichment.

And judging by the very happy - tired and contented - faces heading home this afternoon, we think Day One was a huge success!

Monday Update.

My Favourite Part of the Day

This photo captures one of my absolute favourite parts of the Paddington Paws day.

Look closely and you’ll see that nothing much is happening - and that’s exactly why I love it.

Some pups are relaxing together, sharing a few kisses. Others are simply resting. One pup, just behind me as I took this photo, was happily sniffing the grass, while a few others were off to the side, quietly taking in the breeze.

No game is being played. No enrichment activity is happening. Nobody is being asked to do anything.

They are simply being dogs.

This is one of my favourite things to watch because it shows me what the pups choose to do when nothing is asked of them. They can wander, sniff, rest, cuddle, watch the world go by or simply do absolutely nothing at all.

For me, these quiet moments are just as important as the games, adventures and enrichment activities we provide. They show that the pups feel comfortable enough to relax, make their own choices and dictate how they want to spend their time.

And honestly? I could watch this all day.

Tuesday Update

The pups certainly enjoyed their one-on-one sessions in the sensory area today!

I always love watching the different ways our pups explore a brand-new environment. Some dive straight in with pure joy and complete abandon - turning everything upside down, creating a little chaos and quite literally living their best life!

Others take a more considered approach, moving from post to post, sniffing everything that needs to be sniffed, uncovering new scents and investigating every little smell - taking their time to stop and smell the roses.

And the best part? Both approaches are a success. There’s no wrong way to explore enrichment. Whether they’re enthusiastically throwing themselves into the experience or carefully taking it all in, they’re using their senses, making choices and enjoying the opportunity to explore at their own pace.

And watching them do it is one of my favourite parts of the job.
