September is recognized as National Su***de Prevention Month, offering a meaningful opportunity to promote mental health resources, strengthen community support, and reinforce the wellbeing of veterinary professionals.

Veterinary professionals dedicate their lives to caring for animals with compassion, skill, and unwavering commitment. Supporting their mental health and wellbeing is essential to sustaining that dedication. By fostering a culture of care, encouraging open conversations, and providing access to meaningful resources, we can help veterinary teams thrive, this month and every day.

Such a sweet girl

Whoopsie Daisy has already been through a lot!
This beautiful little girl was found crying in the bushes, calling for her mama who never came. She was underweight and had what appeared to be a puncture wound on her neck—but a visit to our friends at Family Animal Hospital of Friendswood revealed a botfly larva instead. Thankfully, it was removed, and she’s now on the mend! ❤️
Whoopsie Daisy has an awesome foster home where she’ll be spoiled rotten while she grows, gets her kitten vaccines, and eventually has her spay surgery when she's age appropriate. 🥰
It won’t be long before this gorgeous girl is ready for adoption through Starlight Outreach and Rescue! We have a feeling she’s going to have no trouble finding her forever family. 🌼🐾
If you’d like to help us cover her medical expenses, every donation—big or small—is a gift toward her healthy, happy future. ❤️

September is National Preparedness Month. Here are some steps to help you better prepare your pets.

1. Make a Plan:
• Create an evacuation plan that includes your pets.
• Know safe places to take them (pet-friendly hotels, boarding facilities, or trusted friends/family).
• Develop a “buddy system” so someone can care for your pets if you can’t.
• Keep your pet’s ID collar and tags up to date and microchip them with current contact info.

2. Build a Pet Emergency Kit:
• Food and water for at least 7–10 days (or more if sheltering in place).
• Two weeks’ supply of medications.
• Collars, leashes, harnesses, and carriers.
• Copies of veterinary records and medical info in a waterproof container.
• First aid kit and familiar bedding/toys.
• Litter and litter box (for cats) or sanitation supplies.
• Traveling bags or crates for each pet.

3. Stay Informed:
• Sign up for local emergency alerts.
• Know which shelters or animal control offices can accept pets.
• Practice evacuation drills with your pets in carriers.

4. Special Considerations:
• Some shelters cannot accept pets; have alternative arrangements ready.
• Keep vaccinations current.
• For service animals, know that they are allowed in shelters.

National Dog Walker Appreciation Day was first established in 2016 by Wag!, a popular dog-walking and pet-sitting app, to recognize the essential role dog walkers play in the lives of pets and their owners. Dog walkers do much more than take dogs for a stroll—they ensure pets are active, happy, and safe, providing physical exercise, mental stimulation, socialization, and emotional support. Their work often extends beyond walking to include feeding, grooming, and even pet-sitting during vacations or emergencies. Thank your dog walker today!
