What do you feed your monitors is our second most common question!
Choosing whole prey as a primary diet for Asian water monitors can be a great option for supporting their overall health while also making feeding easier for the keeper.
Crickets are an excellent starter food, especially for young or newly settled monitors, and can be offered reguraly for about the first month or so while the monitor becomes comfortable with its new environment.
After that initial period, gradually transitioning to whole preyâsuch as chicks, quail, or other suitable prey itemsâcan provide a more nutritious meal that includes naturally occurring protein, fat, organs, bones, and other nutrients theyâd find in the wild.
Whole prey also encourages natural feeding behaviors and can provide greater variety and enrichment. For the keeper, switching to whole prey can make feeding more convenient by reducing the need to maintain insects. (Cus who has time for that? đ
