This line up is just for Benjamin. As you can imagine, it’s an expensive line up. But we vowed to restore Ben to the picture of health when we pulled him from death row in July.

We’ve worked hard to build up Benjamin’s back end but we’re past what we can do on our own. After a second vet visit last week, it was determined Ben needs to see a neurologist.

Right now, our rescue is operating 95% out of our own pocket. This is not sustainable. In order to continue providing Ben with the care he deserves, we need help. Lots of help.

We have a neurology consult on 11/2. We’ll determine what tests he’ll need to begin with. The good news is that Benjamin’s heart and lungs sound great! He’s up for the challenge, so we are, too.

Friends, we’re facing medical bills that will reach into the THOUSANDS. We can’t do this on our own. We need your help. Ben needs your help.

🐾 A Little One-on-One Time Goes a Long Way! 🐾

Today was all about individual training sessions with Layla, Nadia, and Silver! We focused on two important skills: walking in a proper heel and patiently waiting at the door before heading outside.

Josh has been putting in some great work with Silver, and it’s wonderful to see the progress they’re making together! 💪🐕

One thing we believe strongly in at Rides 4 Paws Rescue is teaching our dogs the difference between enrichment walks and working walks.

🌿 Enrichment walks are their time to explore! Sniffing, investigating their surroundings, and experiencing the world through their noses provide important mental stimulation and help fulfill their natural instincts.

🐕 Working walks are about structure, focus, and communication. Walking in a heel, paying attention to their handler, and practicing impulse control help build confidence, trust, and good manners.

Both are equally important! A dog should have the freedom to enjoy being a dog, but also understand when it’s time to focus and follow direction. Teaching them to transition between the two creates a more balanced, adaptable companion.

And those few seconds of waiting patiently at the door? That’s more than just good manners! It’s an exercise in impulse control, patience, and learning that calm behavior opens doors—literally!

❤️ Rescue is so much more than getting dogs out of shelters. It’s about putting in the time, patience, and consistency to give them the skills they need to thrive in their future homes.

One walk, one training session, and one small victory at a time. 🐾

Today, we said goodbye to our most precious girl, Charlotte “Charlie Bear.” We did not receive the news we hoped for yesterday and at the advice of our trusted vet, we helped her cross the rainbow bridge earlier today. Our hearts are shattered.

I rescued Charlie 4 years ago, knowing she was going to be a project. I didn’t care. My heart was broken from losing my lab, CoCo. I needed a way to help fill the void she left. And so Charlotte became part of our pack.

Charlie was never one to seek out affection or cuddles. She preferred the company of my pack to human touch. She tolerated kisses and pets but mostly, we just let Charlie be Charlie. She loved my dogs. She loved the couch. And she loved us in the best way she knew how.

Charlie was the sweetest girl. She was my first rehab dog, my first sanctuary dog. She taught me a dog doesn’t have to be perfect to still enjoy life. I learned boundaries and patience, to accept her just as she was and loved her fiercely for it. She was special in a way only those who knew her could understand.

We were lucky to be her family, her pack, her safe place to land. I loved every minute of being her mom. Four years was not long enough and cancer robbed us from what should have been her golden years. But I wouldn’t change a thing. I’d break my heart a thousand times over just to love her again.

Sometimes, we don’t save a dog. They save us. Charlie saved me when I needed an anchor, a purpose. She was the beginning of what would grow into full-time rescue. I’m grateful for the time we had with our Charlie Bear. I know she’s running free from pain now. I know our dogs Coco and Link were there to greet her. I know a piece of me went with her. And that’s ok.

Rest easy, my beautiful girl. We love you so, so much. 🌈💔

Happy Adoption Day, Cubbie!! 🩵🐾

We truly couldn’t be more thrilled with the dad Cubbie gets to call his own. This sweet, shy boy has come such a long way, and now he’ll have someone by his side who will give him the patience, guidance, and security he needs to keep growing into the amazing dog we’ve always known he could be.

Cubbie’s journey started on death row, but today he starts the best chapter yet — HOME. 🏡
